Job Summary: Food Service Director
The Food Service Director is responsible for managing the daily operations of the dietary department in a skilled nursing facility, ensuring the provision of nutritious, high-quality meals that meet residents’ needs and regulatory standards.
This role oversees menu planning, food preparation, sanitation, budgeting, staff management, and compliance with state and federal guidelines, including:
Department of Health and CMS regulations.
The Food Service Director is responsible for managing the daily operations of the dietary department in a skilled nursing facility, ensuring the provision of nutritious, high-quality meals that meet residents’ needs and regulatory standards.
This role oversees menu planning, food preparation, sanitation, budgeting, staff management, and compliance with state and federal guidelines, including:
Department of Health and CMS regulations.
- Plan, develop, and oversee food service programs to meet nutritional requirements and individual dietary needs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations including health codes, safety standards, and dietary guidelines.
- Manage all dietary staff: hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating performance, and ensuring ongoing education.
- Prepare and maintain department budget, control costs, and manage inventory.
- Coordinate with clinical staff (dietitians, nurses, etc.) to ensure meals align with resident care plans.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety throughout the kitchen and dining areas.
- Conduct regular audits, inspections, and quality assurance checks to ensure compliance and resident satisfaction.
- Respond to resident concerns, preferences, and feedback with professionalism and compassion.
- Associates Degree in Culinary, Business, or a related field preferred
- Culinary or dietary management certification preferred (i.e. Certified Dietary Manager)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Exemplary customer service skills.
- Flexible with call-backs during emergency conditions.
- Strong knowledge of dietary regulations, food safety practices, and special diets.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to lead a team, work collaboratively with other departments, and foster a positive dining experience.
