Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will serve as a compassionate advocate and mentor for individuals navigating mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support services based on personal lived experience with recovery.
  • Build trusting, recovery-focused relationships with individuals served.
  • Assist consumers in developing and achieving recovery and wellness goals.
  • Support individuals in accessing housing, employment, education, healthcare, transportation, and other community resources.
  • Teach and model effective coping, communication, and independent living skills.
  • Encourage self-advocacy, self-determination, and empowerment.
  • Assist with crisis prevention by promoting healthy coping strategies and recovery planning.
  • Accompany consumers to appointments and community activities when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Qualified Professionals (QPs), therapists, psychiatrists, and other treatment team members.
  • Complete timely, accurate, and Medicaid-compliant documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policies.
  • Attend required trainings, supervision, and team meetings.
  • Maintain North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification and required continuing education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery.
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license with reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and electronic health records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing peer support within a CST, ACTT, or behavioral health setting.
  • Knowledge of North Carolina Medicaid service definitions and documentation standards.
  • Familiarity with community resources and recovery-oriented systems of care.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (preferred).
