Profile of a Pinkerton Academic-Year Substitute Teacher
A Pinkerton academic-year substitute teacher's most important role is carrying out the mission of Pinkerton Academy and supporting the school and department with their goals. In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, a substitute teacher facilitates a safe environment, engages the students in a student-centered learning environment, and supports the goals of the lesson plan. Substitute teachers should be facilitators of learning, coaching students to become independent and critical thinkers, while maintaining a safe and respectful classroom. Substitute teachers are supported in their professional learning towards growth in all areas. Fostering a positive, challenging, and supportive environment is essential to our students' academic and social-emotional development.

Essential Skills and Abilities of a Pinkerton Academic-Year Substitute Teacher
Classroom
- Attends all scheduled classes and duties on time as indicated by the schedule provided.
- Follows and implements all policies, rules, and regulations of Pinkerton Academy as stated in the substitute handbook and student planner, including issuing of passes and handling of discipline issues.
- Carries out all emergency procedures, such as fire drills, as indicated in the substitute handbook.
- Reviews class lists/rosters for indication of students with special education needs or 504 plans, and is cognizant of the procedures for instructing students with individual plans.
- Keeps all information, materials, or knowledge concerning the school (teachers, students, or any personnel) confidential.
- Uses Aspen to take accurate attendance.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Ensures students are not left unattended in the classroom.
- Establishes and maintains appropriate standards of behavior consistent with the rules found in the student planner and implements these rules in a fair and just manner.
- Write a short summary of class accomplishments, behavior, and discipline issues.
- Displays respectful, consistent, understanding, and patient demeanor.
- Supervises, monitors, and manages students by moving about the classroom to assure the safety and optimum learning of all.
- Assists students who need help with lesson plans.
- Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.
