TITLE
English Learner Teacher

JOB FUNCTION
The English Learner (EL) Teacher provides specialized instruction to students identified as English learners to support their development of English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This role involves collaboration with classroom teachers, administrators, and families to ensure equitable access to curriculum and promote academic success. The EL Teacher also ensures compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines related to English learner services.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Linguistics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
- Prefer Valid NC teaching license with ESL/ELL/ESOL endorsement or certification
- Knowledge of second language acquisition theory and instructional strategies for English learners
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations preferred
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly
- Prefer Familiarity with WIDA standards, ACCESS testing, or similar language proficiency frameworks (preferred)
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct instruction to English learners using research-based ESL strategies aligned to state standards
- Develop and implement lesson plans that support language acquisition and academic achievement
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support language development within content areas
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of language proficiency and academic growth
- Administer and support state-required English language proficiency assessments
- Participate in the identification, placement, and exit process for English learner services
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and available supports
- Support culturally responsive practices and promote an inclusive learning environment
- Participate in professional development and stay current with best practices in ESL instruction
- Lead screenings for students to determine necessary placement in EL program
- Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations related to English learner programs
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
Ten Month/Annual Contract (Starting August 2026); this is a part-time salaried position averaging 15 hours of work weekly.
COMPENSATION
Salary will be determined based on PSPA budget and experience. Pine Springs Preparatory Academy does not follow the NC salary schedule and does not participate in the NC State Retirement System. This is an hourly role, with a maximum work week of 15 work hours. Starting hourly rate of $30/hr.
