Job Description: Educational Assistant
FLSA Status: Exempt
Department: Instructional
Reports to: Head of the Lower School
Summary Description
The Educational Assistant helps with all aspects of the lower school program. Working alongside faculty, the educational assistant will help plan, prepare, and deliver educational programming as well as support the day-to-day schedule of our Lower School classes. The Educational Assistant will take part in classroom maintenance and management as appropriate, and will participate in assisting with student learning. The Pine School is dedicated to creating an active and robust learning environment for all its students, and to building a supportive School community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Classroom maintenance
- Material preparation
- Lunchroom assistance
- Small group work in all subject areas
- Individual help - one-on-one with students
- Delivery of instruction to the whole group when needed
- Playground/QUEST/Extended Day supervision
- Any other duties needed to help fulfill our Mission, and abide by our Organization’s Values.
Qualification Requirements
- 2-5 years of teaching experience, preferably in independent schools.
- Knowledge and understanding of best practices in educational technologies.
- Successful track record of collaboration and working with a wide range of learners.
- Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and excellent time management skills
- High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere with both adults and children.
- Qualified applicants should possess both practical and applicable knowledge and understanding of child development as it relates to academics and social-emotional learning.
- Successful applicants will have completed coursework or certification in elementary education or a comparable field.
- Ability to build relationships with staff and School families and to work collegially and collaboratively with a team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of standing or sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to move files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
