THIS IS A GRANT FUNDED POSITION ENDING JUNE 30, 2027.

The Community Readiness Coordinator is part of the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) team and supports community‑facing preparedness functions within the health and medical lane, including volunteer readiness, coordination of community partners, and community recovery readiness.

The primary focus of this position is to maintain and strengthen volunteer readiness; support recruitment, onboarding, retention, and training; administer and maintain the volunteer management platform; and ensure volunteers and partners are prepared to support public health emergency response. Collaboration with PHEP team members, health department divisions, the Office of Emergency Management, community‑based organizations, healthcare partners, and other local, state, federal, and private stakeholders is required to support operational readiness and community‑level emergency preparedness. This position also assists with dispensing/medical countermeasures staffing and operational readiness and maintains community preparedness and recovery partner coordination as directed by the Preparedness Operations Manager.

  • Coordinates program activities, timelines, and resources to ensure efficient execution;
  • Collaborates with program managers to develop and maintain project plans and work closely to meet program goals and objectives;
  • Tracks program progress, milestones, and deliverables, including grant contracts;
  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes data related to program performance, outcomes, and impact;
  • Assists in developing data collection tools, surveys, and assessment instruments;
  • Supports community outreach efforts and participates in public health education and awareness activities;
  • Leads community engagement efforts, including outreach, needs assessments, and partnership development;
  • Assists in budget management, expense tracking, and procurement activities;
  • Identifies areas for program improvement and assists in implementing corrective actions;
  • May supervise support staff and execute performance plans and individual development plans.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business administration, public administration, public health, healthcare administration or a related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND two years of experience coordinating, monitoring, and/or administering public health program activities or providing administrative support for a program or specialized work unit.

(Relevant professional level experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Or

Four years of experience with Pima County in Public Health Policy Analyst I, Public Health Educator I or II, Public Health Navigator, Public Health Program Specialist or related professional administrative or public health program classifications as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

  • Experience coordinating organizational activities and applying effective communication and coordination to support preparedness initiatives, projects, or priorities across the public health emergency preparedness management.
  • Minimum one (1) year of professional experience in public health, emergency preparedness, public administration, volunteer management, or a related field.
  • Experience coordinating with diverse internal and external partners, such as health department staff, emergency management, and community organizations.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience with/knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint), Adobe, and other related Microsoft applications.
  • Experience planning and supporting program or project objectives, including training, exercises, and grant-funded deliverables.

Selection Procedure

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.

Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. This position will require post-job offer proof of immunization(s) or immunization(s) and/or a TB screening.

Physical/Sensory Requirements: Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment. Constantly observes details at close range. Occasionally remains at stationary position. Occasionally moves about inside an office. Frequently operates out in the community at events and meetings. Action Activity - bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, squatting, stooping; Motion Activity - grasping; Hearing Activity - in noisy areas, behind themselves; Speaking Activity - in person, on the phone, on a radio; Vision - operate a motor vehicle, distinguish colors, depth perception, peripheral vision.

Working Conditions: The Public Health Program Coordinator operates within a professional office setting, conducting desk-based tasks and attends meetings. Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position; however, an alternative work schedule or telecommuting may be options based on the Division’s needs. This is determined by the senior leadership for the Division. This role may also participate in community events and meetings outside of the office environment.
