Position Summary
The purpose of the program, TRiO Student Support Services, is to provide academic support and coaching to Pima Community College students with disabilities, with the overall goal of graduation or transfer.
To be eligible for our program, students must be able to earn a degree, with an emphasis on transfer to a university, and must have a documented disability, including learning, physical, vision and hearing, mental health related, and psychiatric disabilities.
We have a small, quirky, non-traditional team that thrives on dedication, collaboration, humor, and out of the box thinking.
The TRiO Student Services Specialist 2 position supports program participants toward the goal of academic success and balance in life. While the focus is on academic advising, there is so much more to this job. We work on a case management model so that students are connected to a specific specialist and, through that relationship, can build opportunities. This position requires the ability to adapt and individualize when working with students, and to cooperate and collaborate with other staff.
The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends.
Continued employment in the position is contingent upon continued funding through designated external sources. This grant is set to expire on 08/31/2030.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Establish effective and cooperative relationships with diverse student and employee populations
- Make recommendations and provide assistance to students based on college policies, procedures, and processes relating to: academic advising, career and degree advising, transfer assistance, assessment and testing, financial aid advising, registration, and retention
- Stay informed and updated on processes and changes in Student Affairs at both our institution and other relevant institutions
- Make decisions and/or recommendations according to complex guidelines for academic advising
- Provide students with encouragement and support in the areas of self-confidence, study habits, and time management
- Provide excellent service to program participants
- Participate in achieving program goals and objectives
- Maintain security of confidential student records
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as required

- Associate’s degree in a related field and
- Three to five years of experience working with students in education (or comparable work experience), including but not limited to:
- Academic advising
- College admissions
- Financial aid
- Graduation services
- Transfer Advising
- Career and Degree Advising
- Registration
- Access and Disability Resources
- Patience, compassion, and a splash of humor
- Work effectively with a diverse population, particularly students with disabilities, the LGBTQ community, and students from different demographic backgrounds
- Ethical independence in a work environment
- Mental Health and Wellness, Social Justice, At Risk Populations, and Student Development
- Strong advising background, in education or similar
- Knowledge, training, experience working with students in secondary or higher education
- Extensive service experience
- Strong, clear verbal and written communication
- Critical thinking to identify, evaluate, research, and solve complex problems that cross multiple areas of student services
- Develop, build, and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
