Position Summary
Hours Per Week: Up to 19.5 hours per week
Department: Science - Multi Campus
Rate of Pay: $19.58/hour
The Sciences Laboratory Technician provides lab services for the College’s Science department. Prepares equipment and laboratory materials for classroom activities, demonstrations, and lab exercises. Assists with the inventory of supplies, equipment, and other materials needed for the daily operations of the lab.
There are opportunities available at multiple PCC campuses.
The work schedule for this position may include working evenings and weekends.
About Temporary Employment
This position has 1 vacant position and will establish a qualified applicant pool for part-time temporary positions. Applications will remain active for 6 months to a year and selected candidates may be contacted as positions become available or when immediate staffing needs arise. Placement in the pool does not guarantee employment. The applicant pool will be refreshed annually.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists in the preparation and maintenance of various equipment, instructional media, subculturing and maintaining protist cultures, and other materials used for class exercises, experiments, and demonstrations
- Organizes, develops, and maintains laboratory documents essential for lab experiments. Prepares and disseminates safety data for classroom use
- Prepares classrooms and learning labs for student use during operating hours, cleans and disinfects equipment and workspace, and locks and unlocks doors to the laboratory, classrooms, and learning labs
- Inventories stock and enters information into the Laboratory Information Management System
- Purchase of materials/equipment as approved. Receives, verifies, and enters order information into the Laboratory Information Management System.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor
- High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) to three (3) years of related experience in a laboratory
- An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
- Associate degree in Applied Science or a closely related field of study
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biology or a closely related field of study
- Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience with a laboratory in an Institution of higher learning
- May require Hazardous Materials Certification
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance principles and practices
- Knowledge of internal and external customer service principles and practices
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques
- Knowledge and application of various instructional methodologies
- Skill in effective communication (both written and oral)
- Skill in organization, coordination, and management
- Skill in problem solving
- Ability to develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships
- Ability to operate relevant equipment required to complete assigned responsibilities for the position
- Positions in this class typically require: talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, and fine finger movements – using the fingers to manipulate and handle objects such as typing, sorting papers, activating button, sorting/separating small parts; balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting
- Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, dusts, chemicals, workspace restrictions, and intense noises
- Must be capable of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which may include: goggles, gloves, closed-toe-shoes, face shield, dust masks, and lab coats/aprons
- Must be able to handle and safely dispose of chemicals, solutions, and bio-hazardous materials common to the science department
