Transportation Operations Manager

Position Summary:

Operations Manager, Transportation is responsible for leading and managing day-to-day transportation operations across assigned terminals or regions. This role ensures the safe, efficient, compliant, and on-time delivery of petroleum, lubricants, and chemical products while maintaining the highest standards of customer service and operational performance. Also provides leadership to drivers, dispatchers, and terminal teams, focusing on safety, productivity, and continuous improvement to support Pilot Thomas Logistics’ mission of delivering energy products safely and reliably to customers nationwide.

Essential Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

• Manage daily transportation activities, including dispatch, driver scheduling, routing, and delivery execution.
• Ensure operations run efficiently and safely while meeting customer delivery requirements and service expectations.
• Oversee terminal operations, product loading, and equipment readiness in coordination with maintenance and terminal leadership.
• Monitor KPIs such as on-time delivery, equipment utilization, driver to truck ratios, available capacity, 7-day consistent capacity, and operating costs; identify and implement improvements.
• Collaborate with supply, sales, and logistics teams to optimize delivery performance and asset deployment.

Safety & Compliance

• Champion PTL’s “Safety First” culture by enforcing all DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, and company safety policies.
• Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and compliance audits.
• Support driver safety programs, including incident investigations and corrective action plans.
• Ensure adherence to driver qualification, hours-of-service, and substance testing regulations.
• Maintain readiness for internal and external audits through accurate documentation and compliance management.

People Management

• Supervise, train, and develop dispatchers, drivers, and operations support staff.
• Set performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and ensure accountability across the team.
• Support driver recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts.
• Foster a positive work culture built on teamwork, respect, safety, and service excellence.
• Act as the primary point of contact for driver communication, problem resolution, and coaching.

Customer Service

• Ensure superior customer service through proactive communication and on-time deliveries.
• Partner with Sales and Customer Service teams to resolve service issues and align operational execution with customer needs.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers in the assigned territory.

Financial & Operational Performance

• Manage operational budgets, cost control, and P&L performance within the assigned area.
• Track fuel, maintenance, and labor costs to identify savings opportunities.
• Support company initiatives to improve margins through route optimization, efficiency programs, and process improvements.
• Prepare reports on operational performance, safety, and cost metrics for senior leadership.

Technology & Process Improvement

• Utilize transportation management systems (TMS), GPS, and ELD platforms to monitor performance and compliance.
• Analyze operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for process improvements.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives in logistics, safety, and customer service operations.

Minimum Requirements:

• rements:7–10 years of experience in transportation or logistics operations, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Background in petroleum or hazardous materials transportation strongly preferred.
• Proven experience managing DOT-regulated fleets and drivers.
• Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
• Excellent understanding of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.
• Proficiency in TMS, ELD, and fleet tracking systems.
• Analytical mindset with experience managing budgets and performance metrics.

Education:
