Job Overview
The Pierce Township Police Department is seeking qualified, motivated, and community-oriented individuals to join our team as a full-time Police Officer.
Police Officers are responsible for protecting life and property, enforcing federal, state, and local laws, responding to calls for service, investigating criminal activity and traffic crashes, and providing professional law enforcement services to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Pierce Township.
Pierce Township Police Officers are expected to embrace a community-oriented policing philosophy and serve as positive representatives of the Township. Officers are encouraged to engage with residents, business owners, schools, and community organizations; identify community concerns; and work proactively to prevent crime and enhance public safety.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with associated full-time employee benefits. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate sound judgment, integrity, professionalism, strong communication skills, and the ability to effectively respond to routine, stressful, and emergency situations.
Duties
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Patrol assigned areas to maintain public safety, preserve order, enforce laws, deter criminal activity, and assist citizens.
- Respond to dispatched and self-initiated calls for service, emergencies, criminal complaints, traffic crashes, and other incidents.
- Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations, including interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Identify, collect, document, preserve, and protect evidence and statements obtained during investigations.
- Make arrests, issue citations and warnings, and take other appropriate enforcement action as circumstances require.
- Enforce traffic laws and conduct impaired-driving investigations.
- Recognize suspicious behavior and potential criminal activity and take proactive measures to prevent unlawful acts.
- Secure crime and accident scenes and coordinate investigations with other local, state, and federal agencies when appropriate.
- Query individuals through LEADS and NCIC for wants and warrants and take appropriate action when necessary.
- Serve subpoenas and warrants and prepare for and testify at court proceedings as required.
- Prepare accurate and complete incident, offense, arrest, crash, and other required reports.
- Transport prisoners in accordance with Department procedures and applicable laws.
- Assist with crowd and traffic control during community events and other situations requiring a law enforcement presence.
- Maintain regular communication with supervisors, dispatchers, fellow officers, and other Township personnel to promote officer and public safety.
- Maintain Department-issued uniforms, weapons, vehicles, safety equipment, and other equipment in proper working condition.
- Maintain required licenses, certifications, and proficiency with Department-authorized firearms, TASERs, defensive tactics, and other law enforcement equipment.
- Participate in required and specialized law enforcement training.
- Engage with residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations as part of the Department's community-oriented policing efforts.
- Respond to off-duty call-outs when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay: $68,891.00 - $93,074.00 per year
