Piedmont Metals is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Safety & Compliance Specialist to oversee and coordinate safety programs, regulatory compliance, and employee safety initiatives across company operations. This role is responsible for promoting a safe work environment through employee training, hazard identification, incident prevention, safety audits, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and supporting ISO management systems.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain company safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and industry standards.
- Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, hazard assessments, and risk evaluations across company facilities.
- Lead workplace incident, injury, and near-miss investigations, documenting findings and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate and conduct new hire safety orientation, ongoing employee safety training, toolbox talks, and safety awareness initiatives.
- Maintain safety records, regulatory documentation, training records, and compliance reports.
- Partner with managers and employees to promote a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage the company's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) program and ensure proper use and availability of required safety equipment.
- Support ISO management systems, compliance requirements, and internal and external audits.
- Monitor workplace safety performance and recommend improvements to reduce incidents and improve overall safety performance.
- Stay current on OSHA regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
- Travel between company locations as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum three (3) years of safety experience in a manufacturing, industrial, fabrication, or steel environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety requirements.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related field.
- Safety certifications such as OSHA 30, OSHA 510, CHST, ASP, CSP, ISO Auditor, or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of safety experience in manufacturing, metal fabrication, or heavy industrial operations.
- Experience supporting ISO management systems and compliance audits.
- Knowledge of Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST/AISE) safety standards and industry best practices.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety practices, and regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with ISO management systems, auditing processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of steel manufacturing and fabrication safety practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and employee engagement skills.
- Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, hazard assessments, and risk analyses.
- Ability to investigate incidents and implement effective corrective actions.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging employee safety training programs.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with managers, supervisors, and employees at all levels.
- Reliable, organized, and committed to promoting a culture of safety.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to regularly walk production floors and manufacturing facilities.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and move throughout the workday.
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in manufacturing environments with exposure to heat, dust, noise, and moving equipment.
- Ability to travel between company locations as required.
- Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while in production areas.
