Job Summary
Provides quality fitness and wellness consultations for members and designs individual exercise programs to improve member’s physical fitness and wellness levels. Records member’s progress and adjusts exercise prescriptions according to the member’s specific limitations and capabilities. Performs one-on-one personal training as requested.
Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectation
- Proficiency with fitness equipment and their uses
- Able to perform fitness assessments and apply rehabilitation techniques
- Must have First Aid and CPR/AED training
- Knowledge of and ability to perform required role in emergency situations
Job Tasks/Duties
- Develops programs for individual and groups, selecting exercises that provide the optimum results and includes activities the client(s) enjoys
- Provides one-on-one fitness instruction for up to two or three sessions at no charge to members desiring a program tailored to their specific needs. Member’s desiring continued one on one training after the initial opening sessions will be billed at personal training rates
- Evaluates clients' physical fitness and keeps track of their progress
- Performs special rehabilitation programs in conjunction with medical practitioners for clients who have suffered injuries
- Demonstrates recommended movements and exercises for the members and their guests
- Provides encouragement, motivation and support for members and clients
- Completes necessary information each day for athletic services desk to invoice personal training
- Provides members with equipment usage instructions and answers questions about proper techniques and fitness
- Keeps up with equipment issues and communicates these to the Athletic Director
- Picks up/organizes weights and other exercise equipment throughout the day in the workout room
- Communicates any problems to the Athletic Director or other appropriate staff members
- Performs other duties and tasks, as assigned
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three years of fitness training experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- A health-fitness, wellness-focused undergraduate degree with a concentration or coursework in nutrition, exercise physiology or kinesiology
- Experience in or ability to teach group fitness classes
Licenses and Special Requirements
- Certification from a recognized and accredited program such as that offered by the National Federation of Personal Trainers (NFPT), the American Council on Exercise (ACE), the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), or the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) desirable
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 30 pounds
- Must often work in a wet, humid, slippery, and noisy environment
- Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach, walk, stand, stoop, climb stairs, balance and/or crouch
- Continuous repetitive motions
- Physical exertion over long periods of time
- Regular fitness conditioning
