What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Wellness Instructor (All Branches) position at Pickens County YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Group Wellness Coordinator/Wellness Director the Group Wellness Instructor leads and instructs classes in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. The instructor will effectively building community with the class, and will modify class as needed to meet varied health, ability and cultural needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Leads energizing, fun, safe and educational group classes to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
2. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and guests connect with each other and the YMCA.
3. Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants' capabilities, physical conditions, health and culture.
4. Celebrates achievement of participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall health and well-being.
5. Maintains a positive exercise experience for participants.
6. Maintain working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current certification in Group Exercise Instruction or Specialty Certification by an approved agency
2. Current certification in CPR by an approved agency
3. At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred
4. Strong relational skills
PRACTICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Report class attendance
- Respond to emergencies
- Demonstrate proper instruction
- Set up/break down equipment
- Maintain safe environment
- Report equipment issues
