Job Mission
The Engineering Associate provides critical support to Project Engineers and the broader engineering team, contributing to the design, documentation, and execution of engineering projects. This role is ideal for technically skilled individuals who thrive in a collaborative, detail-oriented environment and are eager to learn and grow within an engineering organization.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design Support
- Assist Project Engineers with the preparation of CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation for custom ergonomic lifting equipment and related projects.
- Create and revise 2D and 3D CAD drawings under the direction of Project Engineers.
- Produce documents and labels as required for custom projects and assist in maintaining internal project files and documentation.
Manufacturing & Quality Support
- Provide support during machining, fabrication, and assembly, troubleshooting design or production issues as needed.
- Participate in tolerance and stack-up analysis, conducting and comparing measurements as needed for non-conforming parts and assemblies.
- Support final inspections, helping to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements, and documenting results.
Marketing Support & Documentation
- Assist with marketing photos and videos as directed by Engineering personnel.
- Conduct pre-shipment walk-around videos to capture the details of each unit’s condition prior to shipment.
In this role you are required to act accordingly to the Piab Code of Conduct and know and follow the Piab values, mission and routines.
Key Interfaces
- This position reports to the Alum-a-Lift Engineering Manager and is a member of Alum-a-Lift’s engineering group.
- Engineering Associates often receive direction from and collaborate with Project Engineers, Senior Project Engineers, and the Principal Engineer.
- Engineering Associates interact with assembly technicians, machinists, and marketing personnel as required to support and expedite production activities.
Skills and Abilities
- Interest in and basic understanding of mechanical designs
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Skills & Competencies
- ≥1 year of experience working in a manufacturing environment
- 1-3 years of experience using SolidWorks in a professional environment
- 1-3 years of experience using AutoCAD/DraftSight in a professional environment
- Hands-on mechanical experience (e.g., automotive repair, machine assembly, etc.)
- Experience working in quality control and/or compliance
Experience and Educational Background
- A.S. or B.S. in a relevant engineering discipline (mechanical preferred)
- Experience using SolidWorks (or similar) for 3D modelling and drawings
- Experience using AutoCAD, DraftSight, or similar 2D CAD software
- Experience participating in successful technical/professional projects
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Walking or standing for long periods of time 4-6 hours.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
