CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANT

PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN

SCOPE OF POSITION:

Assistant to Registered Nurse in nursing care. May be responsible for performing a variety of tasks delegated by the professional nurse according to her judgment of the patient’s/client’s needs and will be responsible to the nurse for reporting observations and progress. Duties are semi-physically demanding nature. Requires average exercise of judgment. Works under supervision of nurse team leader.

DUTIES OF JOB:

You are expected to acquire a general knowledge of pertinent Nursing policies and other Agency functions. You must also function as an important member of the nursing team, report to the nurse, give and receive assistance.

Your work must be done accurately, neatly, and completely. Observing and reporting clients’ condition and behavior, giving baths, assisting clients, and using good body alignment for the patient while using good body mechanics are tasks that should be included in your daily routine. Ensure that patients acquire good personal hygiene, especially after using bedpans and urinals. Feeding patients or assisting with meal preparations are also included in your tasks to be performed, as well as assisting patients with ambulation, and transfers from chair to bed, or from bed to chair. You will also be required to make beds occupied and unoccupied, take TPR and BP and report abnormalities to the nurse. Remind patients and/or family member(s) to take/give medications. Assist with self-administration of medication(s); this means giving patient the medication(s) bottles, open if necessary;

BUT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE YOU TO EVER POUR THE MEDICATION(S) FROM THE

CONTAINER; YOU SHOULD NEVER ADMINISTER MEDICATION(S). Measure, record, and report intake and output. Assist and/or shampoo hair as necessary, and shave patients as directed. PATIENTS

TAKING SUCH MEDS AS: COUMADIN, HEPARIN, ASPRIN, AND OTHER ANTICOAGULANTS

(BLOOD THINNERS) MUST BE SHAVED WITH AN ELECTRIC RAZOR ONLY!!! Give back rubs as necessary, file patients nails (toes and/or fingers) THIS IS TO BE DONE ONLY BY THE NURSE. UNDER

NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE YOU TO CLIP OR CUT THE NAILS. You are to perform safety and infection control procedures and maintain universal precautions at all times, and also other duties that may be assigned by the nursing staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School graduate or equivalent is required. Will be considered extensive experience or will train. You must meet standards set by the Agency and be measured by a pre-employment physical exam, satisfactory fingerprint background, and you also need to be in good mental and physical health. A general knowledge of correct English usage including vocabulary, grammar, and spelling is required; applicant/employee should also be interested in and learn various technical and medical terms. Each applicant/employee must be able to understand and follow oral and written directions and have good communication skills. Cooperation, working effectively with all kinds of people, making good judgment, and recognizing limitations of your role as a Nurse Assistant/P.C.T. is an important part of your job.

WORKING HOURS VARIES DEPENDING UPON THE CLIENT’S NEEDS IN MOST CASES

8am-5pm: Monday—Friday. Working hours and days may be rearranged to accommodate the needs of the clients as well as the agency.
