What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Dispatcher position at Physicians Ambulance Service, Inc.?
Communications Team Member — Dispatcher / Customer Care Agent
Physicians Ambulance Service | Brecksville, OH $20.00 – $27.00/hr | Full-Time & Part-Time | Nights/Weekends
Do You Thrive When the Stakes Are High?
When someone needs an ambulance, every second counts — and the person behind the radio or phone is just as critical as the crew on the road. At Physicians Ambulance, our Communications Team is the nerve center of one of Ohio's largest EMS operations. We're looking for sharp, calm-under-pressure communicators to join us as Dispatchers and Customer Care Agents.
Both roles are open. If you're not sure which one fits you best, tell us — we'll figure it out together.
About Physicians Ambulance
We operate 60 ambulances across 22 Ohio counties, partner with 175 healthcare organizations, and employ 375 people who show up every day to do something that matters. Family-owned since 1958 — and still built that way.
We're also an Accredited Learning Center with an Educational Partnership with University Hospitals, which means real career pathways and FREE professional development for the people who join our team.
What You'll Do
As a Dispatcher, you are the real-time link between our crews and the communities we serve:
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency transport requests
- Dispatch and coordinate field units across a 22-county service area
- Monitor unit status and optimize resource allocation
- Operate CAD systems and multi-channel communication consoles
- Make rapid, high-quality decisions under pressure — calmly, every time
As a Customer Care Agent, you are the first voice patients, families, and facilities hear:
- Handle inbound and outbound calls for transport scheduling and coordination
- Serve as front-line intake for transport requests from hospitals, facilities, and patients
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with healthcare partners
- Work in close coordination with dispatch to ensure seamless handoffs
Both roles require the same core strengths: excellent communication, geographic knowledge of Northern and Central Ohio, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities without losing composure.
What We're Looking For
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of typing/data entry experience
- 1 year of dispatching or high-volume phone/scheduling experience
- Strong knowledge of Central and Northern Ohio geography
- Availability for night and overnight shifts
- BCI/FBI fingerprinting upon hire
Preferred (not required):
- EMT-B or EMD certification
- Prior EMS, healthcare, or medical transport experience

- Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
- 401(k) with Company Match
- Paid Time Off
- Life Insurance
- Employee Assistance Program
- Professional Development Assistance
- Referral & Employee Discount Programs
- Bonus Pay Opportunities
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts (8- or 10-hour shifts available depending on role)
- Night and overnight availability required
- Weekend and holiday rotation
- Overtime and on-call opportunities available

Physicians Ambulance is a third-generation, family-owned EMS provider headquartered just outside of Cleveland — and one of the largest in Ohio. We operate across 22 counties with 375 employees at stations in Brecksville (HQ), Kent, North Ridgeville, Warren, Smithville (Wooster), Mentor, and Grove City (Columbus).
But the numbers only tell part of the story. We operate what are essentially mobile hospitals, delivering high-level clinical care in the field — and we believe the people behind that care deserve the same level of investment we give our patients.
As an Accredited Learning Center with 5 EMS Instructors on staff and an Educational Partnership with University Hospitals of Cleveland, we offer free refresher courses and real pathways to advance — including EMS-I and Paramedic III (Critical Care/Flight Medic) training.
At Physicians Ambulance, every employee is treated like family. That's not a tagline. It's how we've operated for nearly 70 years.
