Job Overview
We are seeking a professional and organized Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing excellent customer service while managing administrative duties efficiently. This role requires familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, medical billing, and appointment scheduling, ensuring smooth clinic operations and compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. Bilingual abilities and clinic experience are highly valued to enhance patient interactions and support diverse patient needs.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner, providing exceptional patient service.
- Manage appointment scheduling using Athenahealth.
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification procedures accurately.
- Collect payments and process medical collections in accordance with billing protocols.
- Maintain and update patient records in the EHR system while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Review documentation for accuracy and completeness, including CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding, and care plans.
- Handle multi-line phone systems with proper phone etiquette, scheduling appointments, and responding to patient inquiries.
- Perform clerical duties such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and managing medical records.
- Assist with intake procedures for new patients and coordinate front desk activities to ensure efficient clinic flow.
- Support medical office management tasks including documentation review, health information management, and office organization.
Skills
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems, such as Athenahealth.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical billing processes.
- Experience with insurance verification and Medicare/Medicaid procedures.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and health information management software.
- Exceptional customer service skills with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities.
- Ability to handle administrative tasks efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment; previous medical office or clinic experience preferred.
- Bilingual skills is a requirement to assist diverse patient populations.
