Phoenix Paper Wickliffe LLC is searching for qualified candidates for the role of a Buyer for the Purchasing department.
Summary: The Buyer is responsible for executing procurement activities that support continuous manufacturing operations. This role purchases maintenance parts, operating supplies, equipment, and selected raw materials to ensure reliable mill performance.
The Buyer works closely with the Purchasing Manager and internal stakeholders to support day-to-day purchasing needs while also contributing analytical insight, supplier performance monitoring, and process improvement ideas. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, sound business judgment, and the ability to grow into expanded responsibilities over time.
Phoenix Paper operates as a single-facility manufacturing business, and this role requires initiative, accountability, and a team-oriented approach in a lean environment. This is a salaried, exempt role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and process purchase requisitions for accuracy and proper authorization.
- Source and purchase raw materials, components, MRO, and services to support production
- Issue and manage purchase orders in SAP.
- Evaluate suppliers based on total value — price, quality, service, and delivery reliability.
- Support competitive bidding and sourcing initiatives as assigned.
- Monitor supplier performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Analyze pricing trends and maintain cost history data.
- Expedite critical materials to prevent operational disruptions.
- Resolve invoices, delivery, and quality discrepancies with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate purchasing and vendor data.
- Support internal controls and audit requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes and reduce costs.
General Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, Finance, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 2–5 years of purchasing, operations, finance, or analytical experience preferred.
- Manufacturing experience is beneficial but not required.
- SAP experience preferred.
- Strong analytical, negotiating, problem-solving ability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, pricing comparisons, reporting).
- Ability to interpret data and make sound commercial decisions.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Clear and professional communication skills.
- Initiative and ability to work independently.
- Detail-oriented with strong follow-through and accountability.
