POSITION SUMMARY

The Temporary Director of Human Resources provides interim leadership and operational support for the Human Resources function. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role ensures continuity of HR operations, compliance with employment laws, and support for employees and management during a transitional period. The position focuses on maintaining existing systems, stabilizing HR processes, and addressing immediate organizational needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with oversight, completion, auditing, and improvement of processes related to (as assigned/needed):

• Maintaining and administering current HR policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with organizational goals and legal requirements.
• Supporting recruitment, hiring, and onboarding efforts; assist managers with staffing needs and employment decisions.
• Overseeing day-to-day HR operations including employee relations, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
• Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including equal employment opportunity practices.
• Managing employee benefits, leave administration (e.g., FMLA), and respond to employee inquiries.
• Monitoring HR metrics (turnover, hiring activity, claims) and provide reports to leadership as needed.
• Conducting workplace investigations and advise leadership on employee relations issues and risk.
• Supporting compensation and classification processes, including job descriptions and salary changes.
• Maintaining HRIS systems, personnel records, and confidentiality of employee information.
• Assisting with audits, government reporting, unemployment claims, and legal documentation.
• Leading or support employee engagement and safety initiatives as needed.

SCOPE OF TEMPORARY ROLE

• Focuses on short-term operational stability rather than long-term strategic planning.
• May assist with transition efforts, including onboarding a permanent HR leader.
• Identifies immediate process improvements but defers major structural changes unless directed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
• HR certification (PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP) preferred.
• Minimum 4 years of progressive HR experience.
• Strong knowledge of employment law, HR operations, and employee relations practices.
• Ability to quickly assess situations, prioritize tasks, and operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
