Job Purpose:

The Welder Trainer is responsible for developing and delivering welding training programs, teaching welding techniques and safety, and evaluating progress to ensure the trainee is gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to weld for Phoenix.


Description of Essential Duties:

  • Create and implement welding curricula, lesson plans, and instructional materials.
  • Provide hands-on instruction and demonstration of various welding processes, tools, and techniques.

Weld using a variety of different techniques and in various positions

Types of welding will be done with GMAW/FCAW/SMAW

Weldments will be in conformation to AWS D1.1 and AWWA D100

  • Teach and enforce safety regulations and procedures in the welding environment.
  • Assess trainee skills and knowledge, providing constructive feedback, and monitoring progress. Provide guidance and support to trainees.
  • Maintain and supervise the use of welding equipment and tools.
  • Guide and mentor.
  • Keep accurate records of trainee’s progress.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in welding technology and practices.
  • Additional duties such as “fitting” using standard tools such as bull pins, u bars, shims, keyplates, and line up bars.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements:

  • An Associate’s degree in welding technology, metals fabrication, or a related field.
  • Experience as a master welder.
  • Certification as a Certified Welding Educator (CWE) from the American Welding Society (AWS).
  • Certification in welding from the American Welding Society (AWS).
  • Strong instructional skills to help trainees develop their welding skills.
  • Experience with curriculum development and instructional design.
  • Ability to read and interpret welding blueprints and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with welding FCAW and GMAW
  • Ability to produce X-Ray quality welds in production

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and/or hear, and/or use hands and fingers to handle or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand, and/or walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl with the potential on uneven ground. The employee must regularly lift and/or move and/or pull up to 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance) of equipment, material and/or tools which may include lifting 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance) above shoulders. Must also be capable of climbing onto trailers or trucks to secure and move equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee is potentially exposed to fumes, airborne particles, dust, or non-weather heat, and toxic. The noise level is usually moderate but may be loud at certain times. The employee must be available during traditional and non-traditional hours (40 plus per week) to complete assigned tasks according to contract or job requirements.
