Job Purpose:
The Assistant Operations Manager oversees day-to-day shop operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role manages and schedules employees, coordinates workflow, monitors inventory and ensures that all work meets company standard and customer requirements. The Assistant Operations Manager plays a key role in maintaining a safe work environment and driving continuous improvement.
Description of Essential Duties:
- Coordinate workflow between welding, fabrication, and assembly teams to meet production schedules.
- Support the Operations Manager in supervising shop personnel, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate employees to build skills and ensure consistent performance.
- Monitor inventory of materials, tools, and equipment; coordinate with purchasing for replenishment.
- Inspect finished products and processes for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production or equipment issues to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate records, including production reports, time sheets, and maintenance logs.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to increase productivity and efficiency.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, ensuring effective communication within the team and with other departments (engineering, quality, logistics).

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. These may be varied based on specific requirements of a location or project)
- High School Diploma, or GED equivalent.
- 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or maintenance shop environment, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven experience in welding, fabrication, or industrial manufacturing (supervisory experience preferred).
- Strong understanding of welding processes, fabrication techniques, and shop equipment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and production plans.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good hands-on mechanical ability.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in an industrial shop environment.
- Working knowledge of computers and MS Office Suite.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move and/or pull up to 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance) of equipment, material and/or tools which may include lifting 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance) above shoulders. Must also be capable of climbing onto trailers or trucks to secure and move equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee works in airborne particles, dust, non-weather heat, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee could be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate but may be loud at certain times. The employee must be available during traditional hours (40 plus per week) to complete assigned tasks according to contract or job requirements.
