What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool / VPK Teacher Assistant (Full time & Part-time) position at Phoenix Christian Academy?
Looking for teacher assistants to work with children in classrooms ages one through VPK. Specific classrooms will be assigned depending on experience and qualifications.
Teacher assistants are required to assist lead teachers and sometimes relieve them for breaks in all age groups from infant to five years of age.
Typically you will engage in a wide variety of activities including teaching social skills and personal hygiene, introducing music, colors, shapes and numbers, as well as helping children develop language and motor skills.
Teacher assistants help lead the children in outdoor and indoor play activities. Attend to the basic needs of young children, such as serving them food and beverages and diaper changes.
The DCF mandated minimum 45 hours of training is not required to start but will be required to be completed within a set time period. Any additional qualifications would be an advantage.
Some general housekeeping activities will be allocated - typically cleaning and tidying classrooms to maintain hygienic standards.
Suitable applicants will be encouraged to attend classes to further their education and career in early childhood education.
Part-time (up to 30 hours per week) opportunities are available. Part-time positions are eligible for more hours after initial training and as substitutes for full-time staff. Position is perfect for those in school. Part-time hours can begin as early as 11 AM and end as late as 6 PM.
All lead and assistant teachers:
- Provide care for children, such as setting schedules and routines, grooming, feeding, changing diapers, and cleaning rooms and toys.
- Develop and encourage age-appropriate learning and socialization to ensure children learn basic skills and concepts, such as communication, manners, sharing, etc.
- Maintain a safe workplace by monitoring children for health, behavioral, and emotional issues and reporting concerns to staff and parents.
- Help children discover new interests by introducing them to art, music, sports, and other potential hobbies.
- Ensure children are learning positive behaviors and providing guidance or approved discipline, as needed.
- Prepare children to enter the next level of care or for entry into school.
- Keep records relating to child care.
- Work with parents to help children progress towards educational and behavioral goals.
All Lead /Assistant Teacher Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- More education and experience may be required or preferred.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Decisiveness, patience, and stamina to chase after, lift, or carry children.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Exceptional communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of stages of childhood development.
- Attentiveness to the needs and safety of children.
- Basic computer and internet skills required
- Lead teachers must possess a CDA/FCCPC or higher
Education:
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience:
- Early Childhood Education: 1 year (Preferred)
- Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- DCF mandated 45 hours training (Preferred, but not required to start)
- 1st Aid & CPR certification (Preferred, but not required to start)
- CDA/FCCPC or higher (for lead teachers)'
