Position Summary
The Houseperson plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and overall presentation of the hotel’s public spaces while supporting the housekeeping team in delivering an exceptional guest experience. This position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining common areas, replenishing housekeeping supplies, assisting Room Attendants, and responding promptly to guest and operational needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following is a representative list of duties and is not exhaustive. Other duties may be assigned.
Public Area Cleaning and Maintenance
- Clean and maintain hotel public areas, including lobbies, hallways, elevators, stairwells, restrooms, entryways, and other common spaces in accordance with company and brand standards.
- Monitor assigned areas throughout each shift to ensure they remain clean, safe, and guest-ready.
- Remove trash, used linens, room service trays, newspapers, and other debris from guest corridors and public areas.
- Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or cleanliness issues promptly to the appropriate department.
Housekeeping Support
- Assist room attendants by delivering linens, towels, amenities, and other housekeeping supplies as needed.
- Transport soiled linens, towels, and trash to designated collection areas following hotel procedures.
- Restock housekeeping closets, carts, and storage areas to ensure adequate inventory throughout the day.
Guest Service
- Respond promptly and courteously to guest requests, questions, and service needs.
- Deliver requested items to guest rooms in a timely and professional manner.
- Create positive guest interactions by maintaining a friendly, approachable, and service-oriented attitude.
- Report guest concerns, complaints, or service recovery opportunities to the appropriate supervisor.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all housekeeping procedures, safety guidelines, and company policies to maintain a clean and secure environment.
- Report lost and found items in accordance with hotel procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, storage rooms, and housekeeping equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Housekeeper or Housekeeping Manager.
What You Bring
Required:
- Ability to communicate effectively with guests, team members, and supervisors.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and housekeeping standards.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Preferred:
- Previous housekeeping, hospitality, janitorial, or custodial experience.
- Experience operating commercial housekeeping equipment.
- Familiarity with Marriott, Hilton, or Hyatt housekeeping standards.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- This position is based on property in Baton Rogue, LA.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, climb stairs, and move throughout the hotel for extended periods.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull housekeeping carts, linens, supplies, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely operate housekeeping equipment and use cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety guidelines.
