What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard - Clemens Community Pool position at PHILOMATH HIGH SCHOOL?
DESCRIPTION:
To supervise, schedule and perform maintenance for swimming programs at Clemens Community Pool. Participates in active surveillance, risk management, emergency preparedness, and maintenance duties. Responsible to Supervisor and Aquatic Director.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold current certifications in, or be able to obtain certifications upon hire:
- Must be 15 years of age or older
- Red Cross CPR/PR, First Aid
- Red Cross Lifeguard Training
- Complete annual SafeSchools online training
- Must complete orientation and work two shadow shifts to complete hiring.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties include the following:
- Be an alert, safety conscious and professional lifeguard
- Enforce all rules and policies of the swimming pool; troubleshoot risk areas
- Renders first aid and artificial respiration as required. Uses training and certification in AED operation to implement life-saving procedures.
- Attend all in-service trainings and staff meetings
- Assist in public relations and advertising
- Complete assigned maintenance and surveillance tasks assigned each shift
- Maintain, clean and complete equipment checks
- Responsible for keeping certifications and lifeguarding rescue knowledge and fitness up to date.
- May assist with registration of swim classes.
- Act as a cashier for patrons
- Conduct opening and closing procedures
- Other duties as assigned
WORK ENVIROMENT:
In the performance of the job duties, work is performed primarily in the water and around pool areas. The environment is frequently busy and noisy with interruptions and emergency conditions which require extreme care and concentration while performing duties. The employee is expected to be able to work in a variety of climate conditions, including hot, humid and wet environments. The employee will wear approved clothing, usually swimwear. The employee is frequently exposed to a variety of water treatment and pool cleaning chemicals. Due to being in chemically treated water, employees may experience eye, skin, and/or respiratory irritation. Exposure to cleaning agents, solvents, and other chemicals, including chlorine, can pose a slight health hazard if used improperly.
CONDITIONS/ SALARY: minimum wage - $15.05 per hour.
