What the Special Education Program Supervisor does:
In coordination with the Program Director, Related Services Supervisors, Teachers and Classroom Staff, the Program Supervisor manages and provides administrative supports related to the educational program in addition to providing leadership regarding curriculum, IEP development, progress reporting and general assistance to the Program Director. Working alongside an established administrative team the key areas of responsibility include:
- Supervises classroom curriculum and instructional programming.
- Coordinates with the Curriculum and Instruction Specialist for the purchasing, organization, and coordination of all curriculum and professional materials.
- Coordinates with the Curriculum and Instruction Specialist, Related Services Staff, and Reading Specialists regarding curriculum and student programming.
- Assists Program Director in providing direction and support to staff across the program.
- Reviews and supervises completion of IEPs, progress reports, report cards, and required documentation to ensure compliance.
- Provides leadership to curriculum focus group leaders and program leaders.
- Manages transition processes, including supporting student transition planning and programming.
- Organizes and maintains systems for monitoring student credits, transcripts, and overall progress reporting.
- Provides guidance in student classroom management, positive behavioral strategies, and supports, including assisting with behavioral and crisis interventions as needed.
- Observes and provides classroom staff with relevant feedback on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Hires all staff under supervision; implements performance evaluation systems; identifies training needs; and supports staff development.
- Maintains documentation of staff performance through observation as well as written and oral feedback.
- Trains and supervises teaching staff in IEP development, instructional practices, and compliance requirements.
- Organizes and monitors systems for pupil progress reporting and data tracking.
- Participates in admissions processes, including reviewing referrals, supporting intake, and contributing to placement decisions.
- Leads IEP, Annual Review, Re-evaluation, and other student-related meetings.
- Supports program compliance, accreditation, and regulatory processes, including preparation for site visits.
- Coordinates Extended School Year (ESY) services and supports related data tracking and implementation.
- Manages relevant budgets.
- Maintains communication with parents/guardians, outside professionals, school districts, and partner agencies.
What the Education Program Supervisor brings to the team:
- Master’s degree in special education or related field.
- Hold a valid Virginia professional certificate or eligibility for Advanced Professional Certificate in Special Education
- Administrator I endorsement
- Prior administrative and/or supervisor experience preferred.
- At least 5 years of successful teaching experience preferred.
- Non-public special education school management and administration experience preferred.
