Nature Nursery Lead Teacher
The lead teacher of our Nature Nursery Morning Program will have the opportunity to utilize our vibrant community farm as an outdoor classroom to explore the wonders of nature and agriculture with nursery school aged children. The farm has a tri-fold mission of providing fresh and affordable produce to the community through a CSA, providing education for people of all ages, and food justice.
The Nature Nursery Morning program allows children ages 3 and 4 to explore the farm and all of its inhabitants through storytelling, cooperative play, interactions with the farm’s animals, and exploration of the fields and gardens. The lead teacher should be prepared to supervise groups of up to six children at one time, provide a nurturing and caring environment for the children to learn and grow in, and design age-appropriate activities to teach children about the farm and its plant and animal life.
Position Requirements: The lead teacher must be prepared to work active days outdoors with young children. The average schedule is 8:30 AM-12:30 PM Monday–Friday. The position dates run for 4 weeks in the summer from August 3rd through August 28th, with time the week before for training, to be scheduled together with the Education Director.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience designing and implementing activities for children ages 3 and 4
- Creative, hard-working, responsible, self-motivated, and conscientious
- Passion for nature and sustainable agriculture
- Experience working with children
- Comfortable eating a wide range of farm fresh vegetables
- Comfortable working with farm animals (mostly just saying hi and hand feeding)
- Musical and artistic skills a big plus
- Positive attitude and cooperative work ethics
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather (hot, cold, humid, rainy, etc.)
- Reliable transportation to the farm required
Compensation: The lead teacher will receive $20 and farm vegetables.
