General Service Worker

The General Service Worker (GSW) will assist the Facilities Department with cleaning and maintaining all Philabundance locations.
The GSW role is key to ensuring our facilities are clean, safe, and presentable for staff as well as visitors and proactively. Focuses on day to day needs and manages special projects. Duties will include collecting recycling and trash containers and sort in appropriate dumpsters; shredding cardboard into packing dunnage for multiple warehouse areas; cleaning the designated warehouse area daily; riding pack mule/EZ go cart (non-forklift, training provided); cleaning designated areas at the three locations.

Primary Responsibilities: 
•    General facilities and building management responsibilities which include but are not limited to, ensure the environment is clean and orderly. 
•    Proactively plans and prepares for events, seasonal requirements and ensures appropriate standards and processes are followed. 
•    Provides insight to facilities regarding building needs, lights, equipment, tools, and safety situations. 
•    Cleaning before and after, at times during, for special events.
•    Cleaning and maintaining restrooms and break rooms
•    Cleaning carpets and hard surface floors by vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping
•    Dusting furniture, pictures, ventilation, lights, and blinds
•    Emptying wastebaskets on a timely basis.
•    Cleaning windows, windowsills, and surrounding walls. 
•    Cleaning high and low spaces in a distribution center or warehouse environment
•    Collect recycling and trash, and sort in the appropriate dumpsters 
•    Shredding cardboard into packing dunnage
•    Cleaning the warehouse area daily which includes but is not limited to tables, all surfaces, walls, floors, etc.
•    Leverage the pack mule/EZ go cart (non-forklift), ability to drive and be safe. 
•    Provide customer service to Philabundance, special events, and agencies.
•    Recognize facility needs and report or escalate needs to facilities for maintenance and repairs.
 

Work Experience:
•    Minimum of 1 year related work experience highly preferred.
•    Previous work in a team environment, ideally with deadlines, detail, safety. 
•    Previous experience with organization, shared goals, and defined instructions. 

Required Skills and Abilities:
•    Previous cleaning experience, ideally on a commercial level, is highly preferred.
•    Strong attention to detail regarding cleaning, sensitive surfaces, and safety 
•    Ability to follow directions, written and verbal, and multi-task.
•    Ability to follow instructions, retain information and apply information, with minimal supervision.
 

Essential Job Functions:

•    Bend, stop, crouch, climb, stand, sit, walk, and turn/pivot throughout an 8-hour shift, 5 days a week.
•    Move/lower, push/pull and carry objects/parcels no greater than 50 pounds; when moving/lowering, pushing/pulling, and carrying objects/parcels greater than 50 pounds use 2 people or mechanical.
•    Move packages to heights above shoulder and lower to foot level.
•    Ability to work inside a freezer with a temperature in the range of -10 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit as well as in a humid warehouse.
•    Ability to operate pallet jack, both manual and power, and ride jack to load/unload trucks.
•    Reach, grasp, and maintain control of items and materials used to perform activities associated with delivering and picking up packages.
•    Perform additional tasks using simple hand grasp, fine hand manipulation, and reach associated with assigned tasks such as keying.
•    Maintain a work pace aligned by meeting or exceeding piece per minute/production standards. 
•    Work in an environment that will contain variable temperatures and humidity, outside weather conditions, exposure to noise, dust/dirt, confined work areas.
