Staff Accountant – Looking for a Solid Accounting Role with Variety?
We’re looking for a Staff Accountant who enjoys working in the details and supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the business. This role is ideal for someone with a strong accounting foundation who wants to continue building their skills in a hands-on environment.
At Phelps Uniform Specialists, this position plays an important role in keeping our financial operations running smoothly. You’ll handle core accounting responsibilities, support month-end close, assist with AP/AR processes as needed, and work closely with our external accounting provider to learn our systems and processes.
What you’ll do:
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals and adjustments
- Reconcile general ledger accounts (cash, inventory, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, etc.)
- Enter, review, and maintain financial data, including manual data entry across accounting systems
- Compile, clean, and organize financial data from multiple systems into consolidated reports
- Support month-end and year-end close, including financial statement preparation
- Analyze budget-to-actual variances and assist with explanations
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
- Assist with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes as needed
- Collaborate with operations and our external accounting provider
- Assist with audits, reporting, and special projects as needed
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Approximately 3 years of accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Experience working in Sage 100 (MAS90) and Microsoft Office
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Comfortable working independently and meeting deadlines
- Clear communicator who works well across departments
Nice to have (but not required):
- Inventory accounting experience
- Familiarity with payroll or tax compliance
