Manager, Data Management
About the Role
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Manager of Data Management to lead a team of Data Architects, Data Analysts, Business Analysts, Database Administrators, and Project Managers responsible for overseeing enterprise data assets and driving modernization initiatives.
This role will lead data governance, architecture, master data management, and data quality efforts across multiple Operational and Historical Data Stores while partnering with technology and engineering teams to implement a modern enterprise Data Lake/Lakehouse platform. The ideal candidate is a strong people leader with expertise in enterprise data management, governance, and platform transformation.
This position reports to the Data Tower Lead.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a cross-functional team of data and project professionals.
- Establish team goals, performance expectations, and career development plans.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee resource planning, workload management, and hiring.
Data Governance & Architecture
- Drive enterprise data governance, architecture standards, and best practices.
- Improve data quality, availability, metadata management, and master data management capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and data protection requirements.
- Support and guide Data Architects in delivering scalable and consistent solutions.
Data Platform Transformation
- Partner with technology and engineering teams to modernize enterprise data platforms.
- Lead efforts to implement Data Lake/Lakehouse solutions and migrate legacy data assets.
- Define best practices for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and governance.
- Promote adoption of cloud-native data services and modern data management practices.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with technology leaders, enterprise architects, and business stakeholders to align data strategy with business objectives.
- Manage multiple initiatives, priorities, risks, and dependencies.
- Communicate progress, challenges, and outcomes to senior leadership.
Required Qualifications
- 10 years of experience in data management, data architecture, or data governance.
- 7 years of experience leading cross-functional teams, including Data Architects, Analysts, DBAs, Business Analysts, and Project Managers.
- Strong experience managing enterprise data platforms and databases.
- Proven success implementing or leading Master Data Management (MDM) initiatives.
- Experience building and leading high-performing teams across multiple locations and time zones.
- Demonstrated ability to manage both operational support and strategic transformation initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with modern data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, or Azure Synapse.
- Experience with Data Lake/Lakehouse architectures and Medallion design patterns.
- Knowledge of data virtualization platforms such as Denodo.
- Familiarity with Kafka, Spark Streaming, DataOps, and DevOps practices.
- Relevant cloud or data platform certifications.
