What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pet Delivery Driver/Packer position at Petship Supply?
The Company
Petship is a wholesaler of live animals to pet stores in Utah and the surrounding states. We sell a wide variety of animals including: ferrets, hedgehogs, hamsters, guinea pigs, chinchillas, birds, reptiles, spiders, mice, rats, worms, and fish. The company has been around for almost 50 years, providing pet stores with needed animals and supplies to run their businesses. If you enjoy animals then this is your opportunity to work with a variety of them every week.
The Role
Petship is in need of an employee to take care of receiving, packing, and delivering animals to stores. The primary responsibilities will be to pack up animals that are to be delivered and then drive them to the delivery points. There are weekly deliveries within Utah and Salt Lake counties and biweekly deliveries to Idaho. You may be on your feet, lifting, and moving items for up to approximately four hours some days, which can be physically and mentally demanding. You will need to be very attentive to detail. This means counting out large quantities of animals (up to 100) without losing track, ensuring animals have sufficient food and water sources for travel, and labeling the shipping containers for the correct customers. You will be regularly lifting between 10-20 pounds and bending or squatting to grab supplies, while occasionally lifting around 50 pounds.
Idaho deliveries are bi-weekly (NOT WEEKLY). These trips take place on every other Thursday and Friday (you will stay the night in Idaho Thursday night and return Friday). This is a lengthy trip and it is important that you are capable of safely performing your duties for that two day period. There are many stops along the way to break up the driving and get you moving around. This shift begins at 10 AM on Thursday with you packing, then you leave early afternoon and perform some deliveries in Idaho before staying the night at a motel or AirBnB. You then resume early the next morning at 6:30 AM, finish deliveries, and arrive back in Provo around 5:30 PM.
Tuesday shifts can be flexible as these days are mostly used to pick up animals from the airport. But if there are no animals needing to be picked up you are welcome to take the day off. If you prefer the hours then we have other work that can be performed.
Schedule
Hours may also be somewhat variable depending on how efficiently you work, traffic, and seasonality. The expected number of hours during a non-Idaho week will be about 20. On Idaho weeks it is expected to be about 39.
