Position Summary

Petrotech is seeking an experienced Proposal / Applications Engineer to develop technical and commercial solutions for industrial control system projects.

This role works closely with customers, Sales, and Engineering to understand technical requirements, develop system solutions, define project scope, prepare cost estimates, and support technical and commercial proposals.

The ideal candidate has a strong engineering foundation and practical experience with industrial controls, automation, electrical systems, instrumentation, or related engineered systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications, drawings, P&IDs, and technical requirements
• Develop technical scope, control system architecture, equipment requirements, and engineered solutions
• Prepare cost estimates, quotations, and technical proposal content
• Evaluate equipment, materials, labor requirements, and vendor pricing to support accurate estimates
• Identify technical alternatives that meet customer requirements while supporting competitive solutions
• Work closely with Sales and Engineering throughout the proposal process
• Communicate with customers and suppliers to clarify technical requirements
• Support technical presentations and customer discussions
• Maintain and improve proposal templates, estimating tools, and technical documentation

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or another related Engineering discipline required
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience involving industrial automation, controls, electrical systems, instrumentation, system integration, or a closely related industrial environment
• Working knowledge of PLC, HMI, SCADA, control panels, instrumentation, industrial networks, or system integration
• Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, P&IDs, and customer requirements
• Demonstrated experience developing technical scopes, estimates, quotations, proposals, or engineered customer solutions
• Strong analytical, technical writing, and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with customers, Sales, Engineering, suppliers, and management
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

• 5 or more years of relevant engineering experience
• Proposal Engineering or Applications Engineering experience
• Industrial control system design or system integration experience
• Turbomachinery or rotating equipment controls, including gas turbines, steam turbines, hydro turbines, compressors, generators, or reciprocating equipment
• Power generation, oil and gas, pipeline, petrochemical, or similar industrial experience
• Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix, Emerson Rx3i, Siemens S7, Modicon, Triconex, or similar PLC platforms
• Experience with FactoryTalk, Cimplicity, Ignition, InTouch, Edge, or similar HMI and SCADA platforms
• Familiarity with industrial networking and cybersecurity requirements

Work Environment and Travel

This position is onsite at Petrotech’s Corporate Office in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Occasional travel to customer and industrial sites is required. Domestic and international travel is expected to be less than 10%.
