Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 10 hours per day
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Turnaround Lead Planner to support a long-term refinery project in Superior, WI. This role is responsible for developing detailed job plans, cost estimates, schedules, and critical path strategies for upcoming turnaround events. You will guide turnaround teams through the full planning cycle using established work management processes and serve as a key leader during the execution phase.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile turnaround work lists in collaboration with core teams.
- Conduct field reviews of all turnaround jobs and risk-rank scope.
- Supervise and mentor supporting planners; review and approve job packages for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with safety & environmental standards.
- Develop resource-loaded schedules using Primavera P6 for all turnaround activities.
- Prepare and issue work packages, including work scope, schedules, drawings, blind lists, and materials lists.
- Build detailed bottom-up cost estimates and support AFE development.
- Lead turnaround boardwalk meetings and coordinate manpower for contractors and on-site crafts.
- Manage long-lead material procurement in collaboration with supply chain; coordinate all material handling.
- Act as execution lead during turnaround events, including outages, tank work, small projects, and unplanned events.
- Track costs, manage change orders, and maintain organized electronic and hard-copy turnaround documentation.
- Develop indirect plans (equipment rentals, staffing, logistics) and contingency plans to mitigate risk.
- Support training for planning and scheduling tools/systems.
- Facilitate engineering processes and ensure integration with overall project requirements.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong turnaround planning, scheduling, and estimating skills, including norms-based planning.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6, SAP, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Power BI.
- Understanding of procurement, accounting, QA/QC, and contracting strategies.
- Working knowledge of refinery or petrochemical process equipment (pumps, vessels, exchangers, heaters, etc.).
- Ability to lead meetings, communicate clearly, and collaborate across disciplines.
- Experience with metals crafts (piping, vessels, exchangers, scaffolding).
- Strong organizational and time-management capabilities; able to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to mentor and develop less-experienced planners and schedulers.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Mechanical field planning experience required.
- 8–10 years of relevant turnaround or maintenance planning experience.

- $178/day per diem is provided for qualified candidates.
- This is a W2 contract position with an expected duration of 2–3 years.
