Construction Coordinator Job Description


Position Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating construction and materials for transmission line and substation construction projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site construction oversight for transmission and substation construction projects
  • Provide construction management services to ensure key milestones are met and coordinated with other company departments
  • Coordinate and report on construction schedules
  • Support specification and documentation of company design standards and material standards based on construction observations
  • Review transmission and substation designs throughout the design phase and prior to construction to provide construction feasibility feedback and be familiar with the project design, specification, material, and outage requirements
  • Support department engineers and project managers in project scope and schedule development
  • Assists the project manager in providing input to contract bid proposals and bid evaluations
  • Provides input regarding modifications, change orders and other impacts on projects and coordinates with the project manager to revise scope, schedule and budget as necessary
  • Ensure contract compliance with company specifications, standards, and industry practices
  • Ensure company membership’s fiduciary interests are maintained through effective contract management during all construction activities
  • Ensure safe working practices and environment is adhered to on the construction site
  • Ensure construction activities are fully complete when invoiced by construction contractor
  • Ensure environmental and permitting requirements are implemented per the specification
  • Serve as Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan Inspector for specific projects
  • Provide weekly construction reports and status to all interested parties
  • Coordinate construction activities with other company departments to ensure construction timelines are maintained
  • Verify accuracy of drawing markups and as-builts; hang hard copy control house drawing set and coordinate loading of electronic files in the drawing database
  • Notify company Engineering when projects will not meet contracted schedule; suggest construction options to recover project schedule
  • Reject construction activities and materials that do not meet company standards, specifications, and designs
  • Conduct pre-construction meetings and safety tailboards as required
  • Coordinate with other departments as necessary for completion of the projects
  • Works with vendors, procurement, project management, engineering and contractors in the coordination of materials needed on site. Coordinates the delivery and handling of materials in transit.
  • Receive, inventory, inspect, and/or reject material delivered
  • Report material received and construction units completed for invoicing and inventory
  • Assesses any material issues on site and provides solutions
  • Coordinate issuing material to contractor from company Warehouse
  • Coordinate outages and/or mobile transformers as necessary for projects
  • Maintain the security of confidential information
  • Stay abreast of advances in technology
  • Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned

  • Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data or processing information
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Knowledge of construction standards and industry best practices
  • Knowledge of project management methods and concepts
  • Knowledge of budgeting and cost management
  • Knowledge of engineering principles
  • Knowledge of assembly and installation of electrical and mechanical equipment, including high voltage equipment
  • Knowledge of materials and tools used in construction
  • Knowledge of electrical theory
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code
  • Knowledge of construction safety principles and practices
  • Knowledge of procurement design and processes
  • Skilled in working across organizations to coordinate construction activities and communications
  • Skilled in time management
  • Skilled in prioritizing and managing changing priorities
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing


Minimum Qualifications - (Education, Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Four years of job-related experience
  • Directly related experience may substitute for education
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
