We are looking for a highly capable Controller who is equally comfortable managing day-to-day accounting operations and contributing strategically as the company grows.
Position Overview
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building structure within a growing company environment and can comfortably shift between tactical accounting work and higher-level financial strategy. The right candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and able to support both operational finance functions and executive decision making.
This is a hybrid role based in Greenville, South Carolina. Candidates must be located in the Greenville area and available for regular in-office collaboration.
The position may begin as part-time with the opportunity to expand into a full-time leadership role as the company continues to grow.
Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Manage monthly close processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Oversee payroll processing and related reporting/compliance
- Manage AP/AR workflows and maintain organized financial documentation
- Coordinate with external accounting firms, tax professionals, auditors, and banking partners
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls
- Support cash flow management and forecasting
Strategic Finance & Business Support
- Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Help develop scalable financial processes and operational systems
- Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends and opportunities
- Support board, investor, or leadership reporting as needed
- Assist with banking relationships, fintech/payment operations, and financial infrastructure
- Provide insights that help guide company growth and operational decision-making
Administrative & Operational Support
- Maintain organized financial records and corporate documentation
- Support vendor management and operational paperwork
- Assist with process improvement initiatives across departments
- Help create efficient workflows appropriate for an early-stage company
Qualifications
Required
- Active CPA license required
- Minimum 5 years of experience working as a CPA
- Prior public accounting experience strongly preferred
- Experience working within an early growth-stage company environment
- Strong understanding of accounting operations, reporting, and compliance
- Experience with payroll administration and operational finance
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities
- Comfortable operating in a hands-on role with evolving responsibilities
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Experience working in QuickBooks software and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
- Must be based in or near Greenville, SC
Preferred
- Fintech and/or banking industry experience preferred
- Experience supporting veterinary medicine financial management
- Experience supporting startups or high-growth companies
- Experience building financial processes and systems from the ground up
- Experience with analytical tools such as Microsoft PowerBI
