Pet Emergency Treatment and Specialties is Central, Pennsylvania's oldest and largest, independently owned specialty referral practice and emergency hospital. Due to continued growth and expansion, PETS is currently looking for a full time, experienced, motivated Veterinary Technician to join our Surgical Department
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented veterinary nurse to join our Surgery Department team. This position plays a critical role in providing exceptional patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. The ideal candidate is organized, calm under pressure, team-focused, and passionate about anesthesia, surgical nursing, and patient advocacy.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare surgical patients for procedures, including patient assessment and anesthetic preparation
- Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia patients safely and efficiently
- Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures
- Monitor patient vitals and maintain accurate anesthesia records
- Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory sample collection, and medication administration
- Maintain sterile surgical environments and proper instrument handling/sterilization
- Provide post-operative patient care and pain management monitoring
- Communicate patient updates and discharge instructions to clients when needed
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Assist with inventory management and stocking of surgical supplies
- Collaborate with doctors and support staff to ensure efficient workflow and excellent patient care
Qualifications
- Veterinary nursing experience required
- Surgical or anesthesia experience required
- Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) preferred but not required
- Strong anesthesia monitoring and patient care skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to lift and restrain animals safely
- Flexibility to assist with emergency or urgent surgical cases as needed
Schedule
- Full-time – (3) 12 hour shifts (Monday – Wednesday 7a – 7p)
Weekends and holidays may be required depending on department needs
