Pet Emergency Treatment and Specialties is Central, Pennsylvania's oldest and largest, independently owned specialty referral practice and emergency hospital. Due to continued growth and expansion, PETS is currently looking for part time and full time, experienced Veterinary Technicians to join our Internal Medicine and Oncology departments as we continue to expand.

As an Internal Medicine/Oncology nurse, you will play a vital role in supporting patients and their families throughout their treatment journey while working closely with specialists to provide advanced, individualized care.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide nursing care for internal medicine and oncology patients throughout diagnosis and treatment.

  • Safely prepare, administer, and monitor chemotherapy treatments according to hospital safety protocols.
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures, including imaging, endoscopy, bone marrow aspirates, and other advanced procedures.
  • Obtain patient histories, perform physical assessments, and monitor hospitalized patients.
  • Place intravenous catheters, collect laboratory samples, and administer medications and intravenous therapies.
  • Monitor patients during sedation, procedures, and recovery.
  • Educate clients regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, chemotherapy expectations, home care, medications, and potential side effects.
  • Triage client phone calls and communicate patient updates with empathy and professionalism.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate medical records.
  • Assist with chemotherapy inventory, controlled substances, and medical supply management.
  • Maintain OSHA and chemotherapy safety standards within the department.
  • Collaborate with doctors and team members to provide seamless, compassionate patient care.

Qualifications

Veterinary nursing experience required; experience in internal medicine, oncology, emergency, ICU, or specialty medicine preferred.

  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) preferred but not required.
  • Strong venipuncture, catheter placement, medication administration, and patient monitoring skills.
  • Excellent communication and client education abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced specialty environment.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and committed to providing exceptional patient and client care.
  • Ability to lift and safely restrain animals of various sizes.

Schedule

Part-time

  • Approximately 20–24 hours per week
  • Daytime weekday shifts
  • Additional hours may be available based on department needs
