That is the heart of this role. We are looking for a Senior Research & Strategy Analyst to produce the research and strategy that our client work is built on.
Founded by battery scientist and industry leader Jill Pestana, Pestana Solutions is a commercialization and communications advisory firm serving companies across the global battery and advanced technology ecosystem. We help teams navigate critical inflection points — commercialization, fundraising, market positioning, and scale — by pairing rigorous strategic diagnostics with focused, high-leverage execution.
Our clients are venture-backed technology companies, established industrial manufacturers, and industry associations. What distinguishes our work is technical rigor: we build a verified understanding of the technology and its market before a single message is written. We are a growing, fully remote team of specialists who work closely together and hold a high bar for the work we put our name on.
This is a research and strategy role, not a content or copywriting one. You will produce knowledge documents — accurate, defensible, and free of promotional language. What you write becomes the factual foundation for everything that follows.

What You’ll Do
You will lead the research and strategy work at the front of every client engagement, working directly with Jill Pestana and with subject-matter experts in each client’s technical domain.
Technology and Market Research
- Explain a client’s technology accurately and completely — the mechanism, how it is produced, where it sits within its parent category, and its stage of development
- Map the competitive landscape: who the major players are, what incumbent and alternative solutions exist, and how the technology compares on the dimensions buyers actually weigh
- Research the policy and incentive environment — federal and state programs, tax credits, procurement preferences, and regulatory requirements
- Identify what remains genuinely uncertain, and assess how much each open question matters to the work ahead
Audience Research
- Map where a professional audience spends its attention, what it publishes, who influences it, and what it already believes
- Surface misconceptions — including the technical misunderstandings that arise when specialists from different disciplines use the same term differently
- Support and, over time, lead discovery conversations with practitioners in the field
- Synthesize pain points, motivators, and what would genuinely move an audience to act
Message Strategy
- Translate research into deliberate strategic decisions — objectives, key takeaways, tone, messenger, channel, and narrative approach
- Ground every recommendation in evidence, and be explicit about what is known versus inferred
- Build the strategic case that client-facing work is then executed against
Quality and Collaboration
- Serve as a second set of expert eyes on client-facing work — checking technical accuracy, audience fit, and strategic coherence
- Work alongside project management, communications, and technical specialists to see strategy through to execution
What You Bring to the Table
- Demonstrated ability to research an unfamiliar technical field and write about it accurately — an analyst, research, consulting, technical journalism, or science communication background all work well
- Technical literacy across deep technology, and the discipline to know where your own understanding ends and an expert’s should begin
- Sharp, economical writing. Our deliverables are short by design, so every line has to earn its place
- Comfort interviewing engineers, scientists, and executives — and asking the follow-up question that gets past the rehearsed answer
- Intellectual honesty: a willingness to state what is not yet known, and to push back when a claim is not supported
- Strong synthesis — turning a large body of source material into a small number of decisions someone can act on
- Self-direction. You will be given context and a standard rather than step-by-step instructions
Bonus (not required)
- Background in batteries, energy storage, clean energy, advanced materials, semiconductors, or defense technology
- A science or engineering degree, or equivalent hands-on technical experience
- Experience with AI research tools, and good judgment about where they help and where they mislead
- Prior work in B2B technical marketing, market intelligence, or commercialization strategy
What You’ll Work On
Our engagements span battery and energy storage, advanced materials, industrial technology, semiconductors, and defense technology. Clients range from venture-backed startups to established global manufacturers and industry associations.
You can expect to work across several technology categories at once, most of them new to you at the start. Curiosity and speed of learning matter more here than depth in any single field.
