Position Summary

The Bean Harvest Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and overall performance of all bean harvest equipment at the Clewiston shop and surrounding field operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that harvest machinery, trucks, and other essential equipment are consistently reliable, safe, and available to meet the demands of fresh produce farming. The Bean Harvest Fleet Manager will lead a team of mechanics, manage preventative and corrective maintenance programs, and coordinate with harvest leadership to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.

Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Preventative & Corrective Maintenance

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventative maintenance schedules for all bean harvest equipment.
• Monitor harvest equipment performance and proactively address issues to prevent costly breakdowns during harvest season.
• Oversee all corrective maintenance to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs.
  
  

Field Equipment Support

• Coordinate rapid response repairs in the field to minimize downtime during critical harvesting operations.
• Maintain a mobile support plan for mechanics to service harvest equipment directly in production areas.
• Communicate closely with harvest crews to prioritize urgent equipment needs.
  
  

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead a team of shop and field mechanics, ensuring proper staffing levels, balanced workloads, and high performance.
• Oversee daily operations, assign priorities, and coordinate with harvest leadership to minimize downtime and maximize equipment availability.
• Provide hands-on training in diagnostics, repair techniques, preventive maintenance, and safety compliance, reinforcing a culture of technical excellence.
• Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration between maintenance, operations, and safety teams.
• Manage employee relations matters within the department, including coaching, and corrective actions.
• Ensure all harvest mechanics adhere to company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements through consistent communication and oversight.
  
  

Recordkeeping & Compliance

• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service histories, and inspection reports for all harvest equipment.
• Collaborate with compliance and safety teams to implement best practices for equipment operation.
  
  

Inventory & Parts Management

• Collaborate with procurement to manage usage and ordering of necessary parts and supplies for harvest equipment.
• Build and maintain relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure timely access to parts and supplies.
• Evaluate cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
  
  

Budgeting & Reporting

• Assist in developing the annual fleet maintenance budget and monitor expenses against targets.
• Assist in preparing reports on harvest equipment utilization, downtime, repair costs, and lifecycle planning to support management decision-making.
• Recommend equipment replacement or upgrades based on performance data and cost analysis.
  
  

Qualifications

• 5 years of progressive experience in fleet management, agricultural equipment maintenance, or a related field; at least 2 years in a supervisory role preferred.
• Strong technical knowledge of agricultural and commercial equipment (tractors, trucks, harvesters, engines, and hydraulics).
• Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Experience managing a preventative maintenance program and leading a team of mechanics.
• Working knowledge of inventory control systems, maintenance tracking software, and basic budgeting practices.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills; able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under time-sensitive conditions.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL certification a plus.
  
  

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Onsite at the Clewiston shop with frequent visits to farm fields.
• Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and dust.
• Extended hours and flexible scheduling during peak planting and harvest seasons.
• Occasional travel to other farm locations for support or training purposes.
• Must adhere to strict safety protocols and always use personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Work may include high-pressure situations during critical harvesting operations.
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Lifting, carrying, and moving heavy tools and equipment.
• Climbing on and around farm machinery and vehicles.
• Bending, kneeling, and crouching to access equipment and repair areas.
• Working in confined spaces or awkward positions when performing maintenance.
• Ability to operate mechanical tools and diagnostic equipment safely.
• Standing, walking, or performing repetitive tasks for an extended period.
