The Accounting Supervisor will lead and coordinate financial and accounting functions within the department, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with organizational and governmental policies. This role requires a strong technical accounting background, leadership capabilities, and the ability to drive process improvements. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, including headquarters in Japan.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and participate in day-to-day accounting operations including A/P, A/R, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
- Compile and analyze financial reports for management and regulatory purposes.
- Communicate and coordinate financial data and project updates with Japan headquarters.
- Manage aged balances and resolve discrepancies in accounts receivable and payable.
- Review and audit financial transactions, journal entries, and month-end/year-end reports.
- Implement and recommend improvements to financial processes and internal controls, including J-SOX compliance.
- Provide leadership and oversight to a team of 1-3 accounting staff.
- Support capital asset management and cash flow forecasting.
- Liaise with external auditors and provide necessary documentation and analysis.
- Assist with budget preparation and variance analysis.
- Support transfer pricing studies and inventory audits, including across subsidiary locations.
- Directly supervise 1-3 team members.
- Responsibilities include hiring, training, performance management, and conflict resolution in alignment with company policies.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in financial and managerial accounting.
- Leadership experience in a supervisory or team lead role.
- Experience in the automotive industry is preferred.
- Factory/inventory accounting experience is a plus.
- Japanese language fluency is a strong plus.
- Strong understanding of accounting standards, cost accounting, and internal controls.
- Proficiency in accounting software, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office tools.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail, organizational skills, and a proactive mindset.
- Standard office environment; quiet noise level.
- Must be able to sit and use hands for extended periods.
- Occasionally required to lift up to 10 pounds.
- Close vision required for working with data and reports.
