Description:
Perimeter Security Partners (“PSP”) is looking for a detail-oriented Construction Estimator to support the bidding and execution of construction and design-build projects. The Construction Estimator is responsible for direct support of the Preconstruction Manager during the development of cost estimates, supporting documents for proposals, and project turnover packages for the construction Project Management team. This position will lead initial administrative submittal development for all projects through the maintenance of current templates and collecting project specific data. This role reports directly to the Preconstruction Manager while interacting with several other departments throughout the company in a collaborative work environment.
Duties:
- Support the development of construction estimates by:
- Soliciting vendor and subcontractor quotes,
- Maintaining a cost database for all common construction materials,
- Performing rebar takeoffs,
- Attending pre-bid site visits to collect information and measurements,
- Collaborating with construction management personnel to develop durations for each feature of work, and
- Liaise with engineering to layout key features of work and develop takeoffs.
- Collect and maintain a database of commonly used product data to facilitate preconstruction submittal development.
- Complete the project handoff checklist and participate in project turnover meetings between the preconstruction and construction management teams.
- Develop and maintain templates for common administrative preconstruction submittals, including but not limited to safety plans, quality control plans, waste management plans, lift plans, design quality control plans, and activity hazard analyses.
- Develop a draft schedule of values for awarded projects based on the final estimate.
- Where required, coordinate topographic surveys, geotechnical drilling for soil samples, temporary facilities, temporary utilities, and other preconstruction site activities to support design efforts and construction planning.
- Identify key end-user points of contact for dig permits, hot work permits, utility outages, quality assurance inspections, and other coordination.
- Assist Construction Project Managers with the development and review of change order proposals.
Requirements, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a construction estimator, construction project manager, construction project engineer, or a similar role is required.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a professional work environment is required.
- Experience reviewing plans and specifications to determine material and labor requirements is required.
- Experience with a formal submittal process is highly desired.
- Experience with Federal Government contracting is highly desired.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete common tasks without direct supervision.
- Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple diverse tasks in support of multiple assigned projects and multiple internal customers.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Excel is required.
- Must possess strong customer management skills, including professional written and verbal communication.
- Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug test that will permit access to military installations are similar controlled areas.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit at a computer workstation for several hours at a time.
- Ability to lift 20 pounds to waist level.
- Ability to work outdoors to perform occasional job site visits.
- Ability to travel by air or for up to 8 hours by car.
Additional Information:
- Duties are generally performed in PSP’s Brentwood, TN office.
- Periodic (<10%) travel within the United States is required to vendor locations, work sites for pre-bid meetings or project kickoff meetings, and other off-site meeting locations in the United States with all related expenses paid for by the company.
