What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director, Grand Avenue Cultural District position at PERFORMING ARTS CENTER?
ABOUT GRAND AVENUE CULTURAL DISTRICT
Officially recognized by Los Angeles County in April 2025, the non-profit Grand Avenue Cultural District (GACD) is a coalition of arts, cultural and civic organizations along Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA). The mission of the GACD is to make Grand Avenue a safe, highly activated and welcoming place where Angelenos and visitors from all backgrounds can experience and enjoy a wide, inclusive array of arts, culture, dining and entertainment options at various price points.
The GACD aims to enhance DTLA’s cultural identity, increase public participation in the arts, stimulate economic growth and create collaborative workforce opportunities. The organization’s goal is to be one of the world’s most accessible and inclusive arts districts, with foundational values of inclusion and sustainability. The GACD is driven by the critical importance of a post-pandemic revival of DTLA and upcoming high-profile events including LA28 and the World Cup.
The vision for the Grand Avenue Cultural District stems from the successful Grand Ave Arts: All Access event, led by The Music Center in collaboration with 13 other arts and cultural organizations along Grand Avenue. This annual open house has showcased and uplifted the arts along Grand Avenue for over seven years, attracting thousands of visitors to experience the power of the arts in a fun, safe and accessible manner.
Informed by work provided pro bono by its partners at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), The Music Center developed the framework for a cultural district to enhance and coordinate programming, uplift and expand DTLA’s identity and improve safety in the region. The GACD will offer its partners and the community a unifying brand identity for easy recognition. The organization will develop a master plan to improve the visitor experience in DTLA, collaborate to expand community arts participation, implement marketing and communications campaigns, and partner with community and civic agencies to uplift the value of the participating organizations to the economic prosperity and well-being of the region.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the GACD executive director will be responsible for advancing the organization’s strategic framework to build an entity that harnesses the transformative potential of arts and culture to reenergize DTLA, foster community, strengthen civic pride, and drive economic grow.
