What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hardware Engineers - Phoenix position at Performance Software Corporation?
We have an immediate need for Hardware Engineers to join our team on-site in Phoenix. We have the ability to hire candidates either as a Direct Hire or as a Contractor. This position requires on-site presence of five days a week.
Pay: $80/hr - $120/hr DOE – Contract
$75,000 - $145,000 - Direct
We are looking for engineers that can run Python scripts on low-level hardware interfaces. Must be knowledgeable about hardware interfaces and have hardware troubleshooting skills. Must be able to work independently and coordinate with various product teams. The job will also involve providing weekly status and sharing information and best practices with other members of the teams.

This includes Avionics and Space Exploration applications such as Synthetic Vision Cockpit Displays, Flight Management System Guidance and Navigation, Platforms, and Datalink Applications. Our customers are both Commercial and Defense-related avionics and rocketry suppliers/manufacturers. Scope clarity
- Develop, maintain, and debug Python-based hardware validation scripts for board-level and interface-level testing.
- Translate hardware requirements into executable test procedures and pass/fail criteria.
- Hands-on with interfaces like UART/RS-422/RS-485, SPI, I2C, GPIO, Ethernet/CAN (as relevant).
- Comfortable using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, power supplies, and signal generators.
- Root-cause failures across script logic, firmware, and hardware bring-up issues.
- Perform triage with clear issue isolation: test setup vs script defect vs hardware defect.
- Write maintainable, modular Python with logging, retries/timeouts, and robust error handling.
- Use version control (Git), code reviews, and basic CI/test execution workflows.
- Maintain requirement-to-test traceability and test evidence (logs, captures, summaries).
- Document setup instructions, known failure modes, and reusable troubleshooting playbooks.
- Own test development from test design through lab execution and closure.
- Proactively improve script reliability and test throughput.
