Performance Fire, Inc. is a licensed fire protection contractor (C-16) serving commercial and industrial clients throughout Southern California. We install, inspect, test, and service the life-safety systems that protect buildings and the people inside them. Most of our work is in San Diego County, though our service area spans five counties: San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, and Imperial. We're a growing, family-owned company that takes pride in doing the job right, and we're looking for an experienced Fire Sprinkler Technician to join our team.
Position Summary
We're seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Technician to inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, and install water-based fire protection systems in the field. The ideal candidate knows wet, dry, and pre-action systems, can perform a full NFPA 25 inspection, and can diagnose and fix problems independently. This role includes participation in emergency and after-hours service calls. It's a position for someone who takes pride in clean, code-compliant workmanship and takes ownership of the systems they're responsible for.
What You'll Do
* Perform inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire sprinkler and water-based suppression systems in accordance with NFPA 25, NFPA 13, and California Code of Regulations Title 19
* Service and repair wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems
* Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and system-performance issues and recommend corrective action
* Conduct flow tests, hydrostatic tests, and main drain tests (with occasional fire pump testing as needed)
* Inspect, repair, and replace system components, including sprinkler heads, control valves (OS&Y, PIV), water-flow and tamper switches, gauges, and piping
* Install fire sprinkler systems on new and retrofit projects per approved shop drawings and NFPA 13
* Cut, thread, groove, and fit steel and CPVC pipe
* Read and interpret sprinkler shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, and building plans
* Respond to service calls, perform system drain-downs, and restore systems to full operation
* Respond to emergency and after-hours service calls as needed
* Complete accurate inspection reports and service tickets, recording work performed, materials used, deficiencies found, and recommended repairs
* Communicate findings and corrective recommendations clearly to customers and the office
* Follow all OSHA and job-site safety requirements, and maintain a clean, professional appearance on every site
What We're Looking For
* Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience inspecting, testing, repairing, and installing fire sprinkler systems
* Working knowledge of NFPA 25, NFPA 13, and California Title 19 / Title 24 requirements
* Experience with wet, dry, and pre-action systems
* Familiarity with standpipes, hydrants, and control valves (fire pump experience a plus)
* Ability to read sprinkler shop drawings, hydraulic plans, and building layouts
* Proficiency with pipe-fitting tools (cutters, threading/grooving machines, drills, saws, wrenches)
* Experience with lifts (scissor/boom)
* Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently in the field
* Availability for emergency and after-hours service calls
* Willingness to travel within our service area, including occasional work outside San Diego County
* Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record
* Ability to climb ladders, work at heights and in confined spaces, and lift heavy pipe and materials (50 lbs)
* Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
* Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
Preferred (Not Required)
* Pipe Fitter / Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter card
* NICET certification in Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems
* Fire pump testing experience
* Bilingual (English/Spanish)
