We seek a dynamic, innovation-focused Electrical Engineer to join our team in Charlotte, NC. This is a permanent, full-time hybrid position requiring approximately 4 days per week in the office. Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and relocation assistance are available.
The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a critical part of the Engineering and Operations Support team, specializing in complex problem-solving and developing advanced electrical solutions for our fleet of renewable assets.
This role requires a blend of hands-on technical work and cross-functional collaboration with operations staff, other departments, suppliers, and external customers. Focus areas include substations, collector systems, and grid integration for utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects.
Key Responsibilities & Technical Focus Areas
- Engineering Analysis & Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures/malfunctions by analyzing fault logs and test data (e.g., from SEL and GE Multiline relays).
- Apply fundamental engineering principles and operating experience to resolve equipment performance issues and inform operational decisions related to turbines, inverters, and battery storage.
- Conduct engineering studies and assignments with a focus on problem resolution within the area of expertise.
- System Integrity & Standards:
- Contribute to the development of design standards for future renewable energy plants.
- Provide essential technical assistance to operations teams concerning protection and controls across the generation fleet.
- Ensure all assets remain compliant with NERC, ISO, and other relevant regulatory standards.
- Reliability & Improvement Projects:
- Identify and help implement capital improvement projects to enhance plant efficiency, reliability, and safety.
- Support the design, operation, and maintenance of new systems while minimizing impact on existing infrastructure.
- Documentation & Communication:
- Prepare accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches for analyses of moderate scope and complexity.
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills and develop effective working relationships with site personnel and colleagues.
- Maintain accurate records and files related to engineering contract management and project history.
- Collaboration & Leadership:
- Contribute to team decision-making through effective planning, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.
- Adapt to changing priorities and different situations, making sound decisions that impact the team's work.
- May require supervisory functions including assisting team members and potentially supervising contractors.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.
- Ability to travel up to 25% to various sites throughout the continental U.S. (short-term assignments).
- Must be able to respond to and provide support for emergency events and O&M issues during an after-hours on-call rotation.
- Utility Industry experience is preferred
- Experience with high voltage and sub-station maintenance.
- Proven understanding of transformers, HV & LV cables, Inverter Based Resources (IBR), and protective relaying (preferably SEL relays & GE "L" series relays).

Salary : $85,000 - $105,000
