Position Summary
Percy Medical is seeking a dependable, compassionate Medical Assistant to support our Family Medicine practice. This position requires exceptional phlebotomy ability and will play a central role in performing in-house laboratory testing and supporting a high volume of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) procedures. The Medical Assistant will work closely with the physician and clinical team to provide safe, efficient, patient-centered care in a welcoming and organized clinical setting.

Essential Responsibilities

• Perform confident, accurate, and efficient venipuncture and capillary blood collection for in-house laboratory testing, outside laboratory specimens, and PRP procedures.
• Verify patient identity; accurately label, document, handle, store, and transport specimens and PRP materials according to established protocols.
• Perform, document, and maintain quality-control processes for in-house laboratory and point-of-care testing, as assigned.
• Operate and maintain laboratory and PRP-related equipment, including centrifuges, in accordance with training, practice procedures, and manufacturer instructions.
• Room patients; obtain and accurately document vital signs, medication lists, allergies, reason for visit, and relevant history.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Assist the physician with in-office procedures within scope of training and certification.
• Administer medications, immunizations, and injections as ordered and permitted by training, certification, and applicable law.
• Complete medication reconciliation and update health-maintenance items as directed.
• Manage clinical inbox tasks, including patient messages, refill requests, test-result communication, referral coordination, and prior authorization support, according to office protocols.
• Schedule appointments, coordinate follow-up care, and assist with referrals to specialists, imaging, and laboratory services.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record.
• Prepare, clean, and stock examination and procedure rooms; maintain clinical supplies and equipment.
• Follow infection-control standards, sterile technique, sharps safety, biohazard disposal, bloodborne-pathogen precautions, and OSHA requirements.
• Protect patient privacy and maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
• Answer phones and assist patients professionally and respectfully, including those with urgent concerns.
• Support efficient clinic flow and communicate promptly with the physician and team regarding patient needs or changes in condition.
• Participate in staff meetings, training and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Strong phlebotomy skills and demonstrated experience with venipuncture are required.
• Ability to reliably perform blood draws on patients with routine and challenging venous access.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent relevant clinical experience.
• Current Medical Assistant certification preferred with minimum of 2 years of experience.
• Current BLS/CPR certification, or ability to obtain promptly upon hire.
• Experience with in-house laboratory testing, specimen handling, and point-of-care testing preferred, but not required.
• Experience with electronic health records and basic computer applications.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small clinical team.
• Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, reliability, and a patient-centered approach.
• Ability to perform essential job functions, including standing or walking for extended periods and safely assisting with patient care tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in primary care/family medicine.
• Prior experience with PRP preparation, centrifuge operation, and procedural setup.
• Experience with phlebotomy, immunizations, point-of-care testing, prior authorizations, referrals, and medication-refill workflows.
• Familiarity with preventive-care and chronic-disease management workflows.
• Bilingual communication skills.

Work Environment

This position is based in an outpatient family medicine setting with in-house laboratory services and frequent PRP procedures. The role involves frequent patient interaction, phlebotomy, use of standard clinical and laboratory equipment, and strict adherence to infection-prevention and workplace-safety procedures.
