What are the responsibilities and job description for the Zoo Assistant Custodian position at Peoria Park District?
DUTIES: Under supervision of the Zoo Building and Grounds Custodian the Assistant Zoo Custodian will be responsible for:
- Assisting in maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of all non-animal areas of the zoo.
- Monitoring of maintenance supplies, equipment and tools.
- Keeping maintenance areas neat and orderly.
- Assisting in animal moves and loading as necessary.
- Assisting in programs and promotions of the Zoo.
- Wearing proper designated uniform during regular zoo hours.
- Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supports all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
- Performing all other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to operate mowers and some machinery and drive vehicles.
- Ability to communicate with customers and staff.
Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Background and some work experience in custodial building maintenance and grounds keeping.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Must have ability to operate standard mechanized cleaning equipment.
- Ability to follow written and oral instruction; prepare facility for meetings and activities in a timely manner; perform routine grounds keeping functions as directed and be able to work harmoniously with Park District personnel.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
- Must have a valid drivers’ license.
