Job Summary:

The Lead Field Service Technician performs Field Installation, Maintenance, Troubleshooting and Repairs for Land Mobile Radio Systems (LMR) and associated equipment for Public Safety, Manufacturing, Industrial, Agriculture, Education and Hospitality LMR Communications Systems.  Working independently and in small teams to ensure customer LMR Systems are operating efficiently and effectively.    In addition, the Lead Field Service Technician will act as the primary point of contact/escalation for all service activities at this location. The lead technician will provide direct leadership, mentoring & manage accountability for all service staff at this location. while collaborating with sales staff & service leads across all company locations and the DSC leadership team.

Role & Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Installation, troubleshooting, repairs and programming of portable, mobile, and fixed Land Mobile Radio communications systems
  • Customer communications and collaboration for effective scheduling, confirmation of fault indications, validation of fault resolution, ensure customer satisfaction
  • Documentation of time and work notes for tasks assigned in accordance with internal processes.
  • Order parts and materials following internal inventory/purchasing processes
  • Consult with Sales team members to assist in new deployment design and labor estimating
  • Develop and coordinate routine preventative maintenance schedules on city/county 911

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Mentor and provide on-the-job guidance to other technicians, and new hires, ensuring adherence to DSC standards, safety protocols, and technical best practices
  • Serve as a lead technician on multi-technician field projects, coordinating task assignments, sequencing of work, and on-site communication to ensure timely and quality project completion
  • Act as a primary point of escalation for complex technical issues in the field, applying advanced troubleshooting skills and coordinating with internal engineering or vendor resources when necessary
  • Conduct post-job debriefs with team members to identify lessons learned, knowledge gaps, and process improvement opportunities; communicate findings to team & director of service strategy
  • Champion a culture of safety and accountability in the field by modeling compliance with OSHA, NEC, and DSC safety standards and addressing unsafe conditions or behaviors promptly
  • Collaborate with the Sales team to scope new deployments, provide technical input for labor estimates, and represent field operations perspectives in pre-sales planning discussions
  • Maintain professional and proactive communication with customers during service engagements, serving as the face of DSC on-site and ensuring client confidence in the quality of service delivered

Knowledge Of:

  • Basic Electricity and Electronics Theory
  • Principles and techniques of Land Mobile Radio systems technology
  • Principles and techniques of computer technology, IP and Networking
  • Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite
  • National Electrical Code and Construction Codes pertaining to safe and effective equipment installations
  • Application and interpretation of DSC policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the program area

Ability to:

  • Coordinate and participate in radio systems installation, testing, troubleshooting, programming and Repairs
  • Communicate with Customers to identify and evaluate client needs and requirements
  • Utilize Test Equipment including Communications Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Multimeters to test customer equipment and interpret the test results
  • Apply critical thinking, problem solving and collaborative approaches to Remedy Systems Failures
  • Establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships with managers, coworkers, other governmental jurisdictions, volunteers, the media and the public.
  • Effectively communicate and express ideas both orally and in writing
  • Prepare and present written correspondence, reports and materials in clear, correct and comprehensible terms from general notes and concepts

Experience and Education – Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and ability required to successfully perform the job will be considered.

  • Two years experience with radio systems technology or a related field with emphasis on systems maintenance, trouble-shooting and programming
  • Associate’s degree or Military Education with major course work in Electronics, Communications Technology or a related field may substitute for the required experience
  • Mechanical Aptitude demonstrated through experience with Installation of equipment, routing and installing cabling, installation of connectors and various electrical fittings

Licenses/Certifications

  • Valid Driver's license
  • Clean Criminal Background Check
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening

Work Environment

Work is performed in various settings at customer sites, communications tower sites and at our office locations. Travel is typically local for return on same day as departure, but occasional overnight scheduled trips for projects, training, or meetings.

Travel to and from jobsites will be using a company supplied vehicle that is available as take-home vehicle once candidate is qualified for “on-call”.
