Skilled Laborers Needed – Fiber Optic Utility Project
Location: Reno, NV Area

PeopleReady Skilled Trades is now hiring Skilled Laborers to support a long-haul fiber optic installation project along highways in the Reno, Nevada area. This is a physically demanding, outdoor role with approximately 95% of the work performed in the field.
This is a great opportunity for candidates with experience in underground utilities, trenching, excavation support, fiber optic construction, conduit installation, and utility site work.
Responsibilities
As a Skilled Laborer, you will assist crews with underground fiber optic infrastructure installation, including conduit systems, handholes, vaults, and related utility facilities.
Duties may include:
- Perform heavy physical labor in support of underground fiber optic construction
- Hand dig, pothole, and excavate around existing underground utilities
- Assist with trench preparation and conduit installation
- Help place, remove, and adjust handholes and vaults
- Operate hand and power tools, including asphalt saws and concrete cutting equipment
- Operate or assist with vacuum excavation equipment and mini excavators
- Load, unload, haul, and stage construction materials and equipment
- Assist with traffic control support and jobsite safety
- Signal and communicate with equipment operators during excavation
- Work safely around marked utility crossings, including power, gas, water, sewer, and communication lines
- Support site cleanup and restoration activities
- Drive company vehicles and trailers, including backing trailers into job sites, if requested
Preferred Experience
- Fiber optic, telecommunications, utility, or underground construction experience
- Experience with mini excavators, vacuum excavation units, or similar construction equipment
- Asphalt cutting, concrete saws, trenching, or utility excavation experience
- Conduit installation, handhole placement, or vault installation experience
- Experience working near active utilities, highway infrastructure, or utility crossings
Requirements
- Ability to pass a 7-panel drug screening
- Clean MVR and ability to operate company vehicles, if requested
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions
- Ability to work in trenches, mud, and uneven terrain
- Must be comfortable performing heavy physical labor
- Must bring required PPE
- Additional tools may be confirmed prior to start
Parking / Reporting
Workers will meet at a TBD parking location each day and drive to the jobsite together.
