Consumer Lending Underwriters - Credit Union

People's Alliance Federal Credit Union is seeking Consumer Lending Underwriters to work in our Central Lending department located in our main branch, in Hauppauge, NY.

Overview: The Consumer Lending Underwriter position is responsible for conducting careful analysis of consumer loan applications on the direct and indirect channels and exercise sound judgement to either approve or deny the application.

Responsibilities include:

• Review and evaluate information on Direct and Indirect loan applications to determine if borrowers meet the standards in accordance with established policies and procedures for the Consumer Lending channel.
• Working knowledge of reviewing a credit report, calculating debt to income ratios, loan to value ratios and financial documents such as pay stubs, W2's and tax returns.
• Ensure all underwriting decisions adhere to federal, state and credit union regulations including Fair Lending, ECOA, and Truth and Lending.
• Verify the accuracy of applicant information, including income, employment and credit history and document the reason for loan approval or rejection.
• Monitor multiple Lending Department work queues and the functions within each queue, ensuring that member and dealer service levels for underwriting and document review are consistently met.
• Possess an analytical mindset, excellent communication skills and a solid understanding of underwriting policies and procedures.
• Cross-sell credit union products and services as applicable.
• Provide professional, quality service to members and dealers. Assist members and dealers with questions related to the credit union's loan programs.

Requirements:

• Previous experience in Consumer Underwriting, Consumer Lending, or a related field; experience collaborating and working with dealers is preferred.
• General knowledge of loans terms, consumer loan products, programs and processes.
• 2 years of related banking experience (incl. previous lending experience).
• Ability to work evenings, weekends and some holidays as needed.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bilingual, English/Spanish a plus
• High School Diploma required

Hours:

Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (incl. a 30-minute paid lunch). Some late nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
