What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at People Architects?
People Architects is excited to recruit for a Global Controller for our client—a quietly industry-leading manufacturer of precision components used inside mission-critical sensing and connectivity products.
You’ll own controllership for a ~$300M international business unit with seven manufacturing sites across North America, Europe, and Asia. This is a builder-operator role: equal parts strategic finance leader and sleeves-rolled-up plant partner. You’ll be the finance cornerstone alongside the GM and HR leader, presenting in strategy and budget reviews with division leadership.
Location & Travel
- Primary hub: Northwest/Central Pennsylvania (within a 4-hour driving radius preferred).
- Flex/remote: Work primarily from your home base; be onsite ~1×/month for several days (travel/hotel expensed).
- Global travel: ~1 week per month.
- Relocation: Considered for candidates moving very close to the PA hub.
What You’ll Do
- Own full controllership: close, forecasting, cost accounting, cash/working capital, AP/AR, credit, billing, payroll, controls & compliance.
- Lead & develop a 12-person global team in a decentralized environment; set cadence, clarity, and accountability across sites.
- Translate operations to outcomes: build business analytics, health metrics, and dashboards that drive OI/ROS and controllable cash flow.
- Partner with the GM and functional leaders to shape annual budgets, capital planning, and strategy; present to senior/division leadership.
- Oversee IT/MIS for accuracy, compliance, and efficiency; guide ERP/tool roadmap
- Get into the details: walk the floor, validate inventory, understand routings/BOMs, and connect finance to the real work on the line.
Qualifications (Required and Preferred):
- Manufacturing experience is required (cost accounting depth is essential).
- Progressively senior accounting/finance roles; prior Controller scope or No. 2 ready to step up.
- Big 4 or public audit foundation strongly preferred; MBA/CPA nice to have.
- Comfort presenting to senior executives; able to own the P&L and the narrative behind it.
- Leadership style: humble, hands-on, scrappy, steady—a builder who stays close to the work. Stable track record (distance runner, not a sprinter).
- Systems: Familiarity with Oracle/SAP ERP systems is preferred but not required
